flamerbob, you could be right for whatever restaurant you have worked in. I have been head wait in 2 different restaurants in lynchburg, which means i do all the finances as well as wait tables...so i saw what every server walked with at the end of each night. So i'm just speaking from my personal experience.

Three places i KNOW you make at least 70+

They are very high volume restaurants. I know they might not seem like it but in the industry, they both are pretty high volume.

I worked at Macados right off campus for a year and on average I would make $60 on a bad weeknight in tips but most weekend nights I easily made upwards of 100+ and night.

kind of like american politics... you can't JUST blame the republicans or democrats; they're both at fault in some way.

yeah, it's kinda like that with doc's too. you'd be surprised how much the university is involved. i mean, come on... do you really think liberty would let sodexo just throw a building up on campus without its involvement??? there's nothing wrong with that, of course - it's university property! but, since it's an academic institution, liberty knows little about how to build a restaurant... but it still built one!!!

anyway, while the kitchen's small, it's manageable. i went at a really busy time last week and i had my food in 20 minutes of entering the restaurant. THAT'S A RECORD! haha... chock it up to new management!...? well, it looks promising...

i think expanding doc's into the little eastside store nextdoor is a GREAT idea! i mean, is that little joint necessary?

It's still a craphole. Food is really good. Service is not. Something about sucky service that makes the food bad

i think the problem is they have no competition. sodexho has a monopoly on campus so they don't need to cater to customer needs. if we could implement a system that created some competition in the food end of LU, I think our options would improve greatly and students would be much happier, all the while providing better alternatives for cheaper on the business end of things.

its amazing how competition seems to fix things. now if only Obama could understnad that...

Well, we know what restaurant Bryson & JDUB would vote for (it has an orange roof).

I would love a Mellow Mushroom. Not sure that would do great at Liberty though.

Rephrase: I don't think that would do good near Liberty. Put it across town far enough away from campus and it would flourish.

Crap, I thought that was in a different place than it is. For some reason, without clicking on the picture, I thought the hotel was the Extended Stay. Over there by the HGI would work though.

I doubt that DOC would want his name affiliated with something...especially an eating establishment...that has developed such a poor reputation. I loved the atmosphere...the food was a B-...but the service was simply abysmal.

I finally ate at Doc's today, and sadly I agree with our dear departed friend Fumblerooskies. The only differences were that the service was decent while the food was more like a D at best. My brother and I both got barbecue bacon burgers, and they were like the McRib of burgers. The patties were too perfectly shaped, most likely frozen before cooked, and they were rubbery and bland. The bacon was thin and tasteless, almost like turkey bacon. My brother's fries were actually pretty good, but my chips were far from being homemade, as the menu boasted. Do they think I was born yesterday?

I'm sure some would say I should have tried this or that, but if you're going to call yourself a diner, at the very least, you need to get your burger right. Of course, Doc's Diner is really just a diner-themed restaurant, and in the end what I got was a burger-themed meal. I won't be back.
