Ok...and again...we're not talking about a ton of money and I can promise you I can find 10000 other things in those same peoples lives that they are spending well above that for other frivolous stuff

not sure why we're arguing about this!

Easy for you to say. FF is a nice break from a long day...however, some threads drive me insane. Ironic, yes?

Am I sensing a general consensus that we give donations a try before we try advertising?

If so, what do you think of some of the ideas in this thread?

I'd like to see this get rolling sooner rather than later. We've tossed around the idea before but now I'd like to get it rolling,

Donations good. Fire and popups bad.

Any chance said donations would be tax deductible?

Since it IS the new American Way...those of us with incomes can fund the site thru PayPal for those who are students or GA's with no income.

Donations would be my preference also, and I could chip in.

i am though...there is no way i could justify paying for a message board with finances the way they are right now...we got rid of cable and some other extra expenses so we could keep our finances in check just recently....

donations is a good way to go...when things start looking a bit better financially for my wife and I...I would be more then happy to give some...and i don't think ads are a bad thing either...especially if they are local...that is a great idea..there are many businesses in town that would benefit greatly getting their word out...but it would take a slightly different design...which is far from my expertise...

anyways...my 2 cents

I think ads like they have on libertyflames.com would work. You incorporate them into the site.

Yea, I don't get the issue with ads when they are blended with the site!

Sly, or someone in the know, could you give a ballpark number of how much per month we're looking at?

Do you mean per person or total costs

I'm in favor of the donations concept. As long as it doesn't get too "PBS" around here.

And I don't need a crappy toaster cozy or cassette tape for my $75.00 comitment. Just keep the site up.

I, however, insist on a totebag and a DVD copy of some random performance by Celtic Woman.

Alrighty, folks. There's now a PayPal Donate button at the bottom of every page on FlameFans.

You can make a donation through any of the methods PayPal accepts which includes most major credit cards and electronic funds transfers.

Ads, tastefully done, can work.

If it's done improperly, well, see for yourself.[/url]
