I didn't feel bad about putting my boy in bed with 2 min. to go, and when I checked the score about 20 min. later, I'd thought the best- that we only lost by ~ 4. Next time I'll heed Coach's suggestion about staying 'til the end. Sounds like it might have been reminiscent of that game against the Mount back in the mid '80s.

Both the team and coach impress me with their poise and character. I will be present Sat. come hell or high water!

what a game. Glad we decided to make the trip. The first 38mins were garbage. Horrible offense. Too many 3s. Thank God we decided to hit a free throw or two. Hope our boys show up saturday night. A win is a win though. Go flames.

Here's the AP wrapup...

Liberty beats High Point 61-56

Associated Press, 9:28pm EST

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Anthony Smith scored 24 points, including eight during Liberty's game-clinching rally, in a 61-56 win over High Point on Tuesday night.
High Point (5-13, 1-7 Big South Conference) led 56-47 with 1:43 to play before Smith hit five consecutive free throws and a 3-pointer to bring the Flames' deficit to 56-55 with 36 seconds left.

Kyle Ohman hit a go-ahead 3-pointer for Liberty with 17 seconds to play, and the Flames (14-6, 5-3) finished their 14-0 run with a Seth Curry layup and a free throw by Jesse Sanders.

Ohman finished with 19 points for Liberty, and Curry scored nine for his lowest point total since notching eight against St. Louis on Dec. 19.
High Point was led by Jourdan Morris with 15 points, Steadman Short with 14 and Eugene Harris with 11. David Singleton added 11 rebounds for the Panthers, who outrebounded Liberty 42-29.

On the possibility that many fans missed the comeback on the radio ...
If you follow the Flames you should never turn it off whether we are leading or not.
I turned the radio off at this point: Liberty - 47, HPU - 52 with 3:21 to go. I didn't "give up" on our guys I SWEAR, I just couldn't take the stress any more! what a nice surprise to check online to see we actually won. WOW, Way to go guys! AWESOME WIN!! Like jcmanson said, "CARDIAC KIDS" is right!

Bottom line ... we will be 1 game behind the loser of the VMI-Radford game when the Highlanders come to town Saturday and two back of the winner. This league is still wide open.

I've covered a lot of college basketball in the last 14 years (man, I'm old), but I can't ever remember seeing anything like that. Just crazy.

A few years ago I covered a game where Tracy McGrady scored 11 points in the final 30 seconds to lead the Rockets to a victory over the Spurs. But those games are ridiculously rare.

Here is the wrapup from the SIDs ...

It is ugly over on the HPU board where they feel like they were jobbed by the men in stripes. Here is the take of their SIDs ...

On the LUnatics and Friends in Millis ...
"Another good showing by our LU fans. Unlike at VMI I didn't hear them much until the end but they were a big part of our comeback. It would be great if we had 6- or 7-thousand in the Vines Saturday in our big game playing Radford."
its hard to be loud an entire game when the AD gives away the seats behind the bench where LU fans are supposed to sit, and the students who travel on their own money, have to buy tickets that are in the rafters and they can't see the scoreboard or half the court because a goal is hanging right in front of them.

don't worry though, i'm sure the 90 year olds they gave away the seats too were just as loud and supporting of our team as the LUnatics would have been....

oh no, wait. actually, i barely saw them clap. i could have been louder than that whole section by MYSELF

Wow, I was planning on quoting that and making a comment. I would've made it a little more tactful because I have to but there ya go.

We can't be effective when we're forced to the rafters. It's happened two games in a row. When we're near the bench or somewhere other than a top corner, we can overtake an opposing team's gym. When we're in the rafters, well, we have to pick and choose when we yell because it's not worth it the other times. I couldn't see the scoreboard the entire game. I couldn't see what happened on offense most of the second half. I understand why some of the tickets that are given away are given out but I just wish we wouldn't get screwed in the process.

most legit comment i've heard on the topic. agreed. i am in favor of yelling the entire game, but not if we can't be heard. hopefully we'll get closer seats in the future, if possible of course. not slamming those people that were sitting behind the bench tonight... but they would have had the same game experience if they had been sitting in our seats. the LUnatics would love to sit court side at an opposing gym. like SJ said, it'd be a takeover. crowd's worth 4 to 6+ points.

I just hate how the past two years, when things weren't going that great, we were there, behind the bench cheering at as many away games as possible. We went to games with 7:40s the next day when we didn't have money but figured we'd eat peanut butter sandwiches to see our classmates play. Now that things are going good for the program and we have an established club, we are forced into the rafters two games in a row. If we don't go to a game, we get grief saying, "Oh man, we missed you guys." When we do go to a game, we hear that we were great and really helped the team. I'm not asking for special treatment. I don't want that. I just want to get the same opportunities we've gotten the past two years. I understand donors have to have their butts kissed and we have to give them things. That's how athletics work. I simply don't want to get jipped and have the things we've been getting taken away when things finally start going good with the program.

Thus the battle of all colleges and students at some point when they see the $$$ that the student sections could bring in for premium seats when building new arenas

Oh I know. I understand completely why it's done. I just feel I have a right to not like it. That doesn't mean it'll change, but at least I got to say I don't like it and know it was heard. That's all.

we couldn't have gotten there earlier for the game today cause we all had class. and not to mention the tickets we bought, the HPU event staff made us go upstairs. we were screwed into standing up there regardless tonight.

It wouldn't have mattered if we had gotten there at noon. We would've been in the rafters. Once we got that text message that said there weren't any tickets left, our hopes of sitting anywhere close to the floor were done. That's three games this year we've had intentions to sit by the floor near the team and ended up in the rafters.

Also worth noting tonight: I'd cut Jerry a little slack on any mistakes he made tonight. I sat right next to the radio crew on press row and McKay blocked our view the entire night. I hardly saw anything that happened on LU's end in the second half. Jerry had the same problem.

Why did HPU flip the benches this year? That confused me at first.

No, they didn't flip them on different sides of the court. They flipped which end of the court they were on. Their students sit in the end zones so it had nothing to do with student sections either.
