Rashad has been invited to the NFL combine

The Senior Bowl is nearly as important as the Combine for Rashad. The NFL coaching staffs love the opportunity to test the players in real football scenarios more than the track and strength-oriented Combine.

Rashad is working out in Florida in preparation for going under the microscope of the league scouts and coaches.

Wonder how much Beanie Wells entering the draft is going to hurt RJ's draft stock ...

Hard to tell. The combine will be where they can be tested without the Big Ten-Big South goggles on.

More love for Rashad going into the Senior Bowl...

Small School Love

Three players to watch from small schools at this year's Senior Bowl are Jackson State CB Domonique Johnson, Liberty RB Rashad Jennings, and Cal Poly WR Ramses Barden. Johnson had five picks as a senior, offers ideal size (6'2/200) at his position, and could be this year's version of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. A former Pitt transfer like Flacco, Jennings has been known to run his forty in the mid-4.4s and goes 6'1/230. He won Big South Offensive Player of the Year twice in a row. Barden, at a Plaxico Burress-like 6'6/227, averaged 25.7 yards per catch as a senior and scored a touchdown in 20 consecutive games.

Civil Rights in Central Virginia: Football coach took responsibility ‘to the future’

By DARRELL LAURANT

Published: January 16, 2009

Civil Rights in Central Virginia (fifth in a series): With Barack Obama poised to become the nation’s first black President, The News & Advance looks at significant post-1950s civil rights moments in Lynchburg.

Otis Tucker Jr. may have seen the movie “Remember the Titans,” but he didn’t live it.

In the film, two Alexandria high schools merged under a desegregation mandate, which also meant merging the football teams. Herman Boone, the coach of the black school (played by Denzell Washington) became the head coach, the white school’s coach, Bill Yoast (Will Patton) the top assistant.

My high school from Greensboro apparently beat Glass that season. But they misspelled our name! Its Grimsley not Grimsely!

Rashad Jennings/RB/Liberty: Jennings is the top small school player in Mobile this week and proved as much in Day 1. His 234-pound frame looked impressive this morning during weigh-ins, then Jennings looked athletic and fast on the field at practice. He has a burst through the hole and looks frighteningly powerful running in the open field. Jennings also caught the ball well and stood out in blocking drills.

As for the players who took part in Monday's pageant in Mobile, USC linebacker Brian Cushing and two running backs, Liberty's Rashad Jennings and Virginia's Cedric Peerman, were in the running for "best body." The player who stole the show, however, was LSU offensive lineman Herman Johnson, who was a tad taller than 6-7 and who tipped the scale at 382 pounds. Johnson's hands were 11 1/4 inches from pinkie to thumb and each arm was three feet long, a statistic that drew excited chatter from the crowd.

per espn.com this afternoon wrote:Liberty RB Rashad Jennings: Jennings (6-1, 234 pounds, 9⅞" hands, 32½" arms) doesn't have their résumés or their top-end speed, but the small-school prospect looked an awful like 2008 Senior Bowl attendees Rashad Mendenhall and Jonathan Stewart during weigh-ins. He didn't appear to have an ounce of body fat despite tipping the scales at 234 pounds
The evaluators are not sure if he can play yet, but at least he'll get a look for looking the part. But we all know the truth, Rashad can play. Good to see him getting press on the first day.

McShay lists Jennings in his 'Most to Prove' category:
Liberty RB Rashad Jennings
Jennings, who transferred to Liberty from Pittsburgh, rushed for 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2008. However, all of his production came against FCS foes so scouts are naturally eager to see what he does against a much higher level of competition. Listed at 6-1 and 230 pounds, Jennings is clearly big enough to make the jump but the question is whether he possesses the speed and elusiveness to succeed in the NFL. The way he performs against a supremely talented South linebacker corps that includes the USC trio of Maualuga, Cushing and OLB Clay Matthews should help answer that question this week.
