Coach McKay Comments

On facing VMI's style of play ...

"I was really, really proud our group. VMI plays so unconventionally that a bunch of guys who didn't play tonight like Austin and David Minaya helped us prepare. We did a sound job of getting good shots."

On VMI's fullcourt press ...
"They changed that against us as we handled their pressure. They had to back off."

On Jesse's Near Triple-Double ...
"Hats off to Jesse Sanders. I haven't seen many freshmen like this come in a against Virginia and VMI to play like this."

On 53% from Field ...

"We haven't shot well as of late. But we did a good tonight of finding the open man and hitting the shots."

On Outrebounding VMI 48-30 ...

It is a little misleading because VMI gets outrebounded by 8 or 9 every time out. But Anthony really worked hard.

On collecting rare road victory ...
"We had a belief we were going to win after the way we have played on the road at Clemson, at DePaul and at St. Louis."

On game atmosphere in Cameron Hall ...
"How about our fans? We had two sections here where it made it feel like a tournament game. I hope our fans are listening on the road on their way back to Lynchburg. Because we'll be giving them some love on the bus ride home."

Actually, he was a mere 8 steals from it.

I said that about 7 posts before Z.

Didn't bother to read that high. You're on top of it!

I couldn't find steals on there but I was 100% sure he had no blocks.

Heck, Sly...that may be an NCAA record!
nope, not an ncaa record. don't know if the following is, but it's more than 91:
http://www.goredlands.com/sports/mbkb/2 ... /ur-wc.htm
Whittier starters had 115 points, bench had 22 points. 115-22=93

Chapman starters had 114 points, bench had 21 points. 114-21=93

had to make sure the facts were correct! lol

no actually, looking up teams that run (or used to run) that grinnell style of basketball was what I did because it lends itself to 100+ scoring games. first looked up grinnell, then redlands, then i was going to look up vmi, but I got what I needed from redlands so didn't need to look up VMI.

at least the VMI livestats doesn't suck as much as this garbage from virginia wesleyan. the team on the left side was listed as Washington & Lee the whole first half and the stats and names of the players didn't even correlate with the score or team until the second half.

But is it the most points scored by starters with 0 from the bench?

I'm really surprised that Johnny Stephene played 19 minutes and didn't score. I figured that style would really suit his game.

don't know. i've never seen a non-LU game where the bench couldn't even do as little as score 1 point...

just returned home from VMI, and it is a great day to be a flame. the place was packed...people sitting in the aisles and the LU fans brought the noise, so props to the LUnatics. seth curry continues to amaze me, but what a total team effort. the kenon kid from VMI talks a lot and duggar was all over the refs today but it was simple we outplayed the keydets. now time for high point. GO FLAMES!!

Seth has made 27 of his last 28 FT. He didn't get off to a good start at the line this year and his comment was "but I'm gunna fix that". I think it's fixed! :nod

LEXINGTON, Va. – In front of the largest crowd in Cameron Hall history, the visiting Liberty Flames ended VMI’s 10-game winning streak Saturday afternoon at Cameron Hall, prevailing 91-80 in a Big South contest.

With the loss, the Keydets drop to 14-3 on the season, and 6-1 in Big South action. Liberty’s win pushes the Flames to 13-6 and 4-3 in conference play.

The 5,029 fans in attendance set a new Cameron Hall record, surpassing the previous high set in a game against North Carolina on Dec. 15, 1997. The overflow crowd saw the Keydets open the game on a 7-2 run, as Liberty had three turnovers in the opening three minutes. The Flames responded quickly, and took their first lead of the game at 14:35 on a Kyle Ohman three-pointer, 10-9.

I always tease Seth about the FT shooting but he has really made it his mission to raise his concentration level and start knocking them down. Props to Young Curry.

The Liberty fans were great. The ones above the VMI band have some learning to do but overall, we were represented very well.

Thanks to all the Liberty people that came out! It was awesome! Ritchie McKay had a great gameplan and we executed it well. Big win for our guys and it felt great to win in an environment like that.

Best atmosphere I've ever seen at a Big South game. That place was shaking when VMI cut the lead to seven in the second half.
