There was talk about us being under the SFC umbrella when we first got approved. I didn't want that and luckily I had some people on my side that fought for us to be our own group. I like it better than way. I like how we'll work together on stuff but still be two separate groups. For what we do, I think it's better that it is completely, 100% student led. We don't have to go to someone in Hancock to approve every little thing we do and that works better.
My question:

What do we do that would need permission? The chants? I mean it seems that after we all got on the same page there are no more disputes over what you can/cannot say. Its just a thought thats making me wonder, would it be better for LU to have one unified group? Sure, the LUnatics are very good at what we do, but the SFC has numbers. And surely 500 people on the same page at games is better than 50. The SFC doesnt have a game atmosphere setup like we do, but we dont have the number or resources they do.

I dont think anyone would argue we would have been better off a SFC umbrella then, because theres been alot of progress made in the year since it started. But after getting on the same page and clarifying in-game rules, you wonder if the two groups would be stronger as one.

See, my opinion on this is that there are so many students that are trying to be extra spiritual that think that chanting at players is wrong. In fact we just recently got an e-mail from a kid saying we are an unbiblical group. I think if we try to combine with SFC and become one big student section, all under one umbrella, we will see more censorship. Right now, we have a good situation where the AD, the coach, and even the chancellor support what we do. But if we were to combine with SFC, then we would likely have to follow their policies and I think it would end up hurting the group. I think we are better as two separate groups that respect each other and work together to help support our athletic department.

1) What sensorship are we talking about? How would it bring more sensorship and what would have to be taken out?

2) What policies would hurt the group?

What do we do that would change? Outside of the logistics of having to go through Bob Good, what would change? Have we had a conduct problem at a game this year? I dont remember(plus Im not there).

In terms of what we would need permission for:

1) Sending out any type of message on Facebook
2) Going out and doing club get togethers outside of games (i.e. the cookout last year, Super Bowl, etc)
3) Spending any type of money that we have
4) What we do for the homecoming float or things like that
5) How meetings are ran

Those are just five off the top of my head. The way we do things now, the core group members and the people I trust can make a decision and go with it without having to get it approved and all of that. If we're sitting around one night watching tv and have an idea, we can do it. We don't have to wait for approval.

As for having one big unified student section:

Right now, the LUnatics have chosen to be a smaller, closer knit group that is based on activity and not numbers. We would rather have 50 active members than 500 on the roster. That's what we chose for this year. We talked about it this summer and that was our goal. It's what we set out to do. Now that we're a bit more established, if the group wants to get bigger we can do it. We could easily have 200-300 members right now if we wanted to have that many. I remember signing up 100+ freshman in a day with the SFC. However, we chose to keep it smaller.

There have been numerous people e-mail me (not students, alumni and others connected with the school) asking what the long-term goal of The LUnatics is. Right now, I don't have an answer. There are a couple of different things that are bouncing around. I would love to turn it into something that alumni become involved in as well. It wouldn't be a competition to the Flames Club but just something that the more outgoing and spirited fans can join. As more and more of us graduate, I think you might see that happening. Right now, the goal is to have a group in the center of the student section who is together and leading things. It's to have a group that will be there no matter what, win or lose. As you've seen this year, more and more people outside of the club have been getting involved with the things that we do during games. We don't have to have a ton of members to get a unified student section. There just has to be a core group that knows how to lead things.

You edited this after I made my post. This statement alone is why I don't want the club to be a part of the SFC. Bob Good is great as the director of the Flames Club. It's the way his mind works and the way he thinks. What we are and what that is are two, 100% different things and you can't run one with the mindset of the other. He has a great mind and personality for development and all of the things that go into that. He doesn't think like those of us who run The LUnatics. Even Allen and Ryan don't think like that. They're both smart guys and I'm friends with them, but they've always been working during games and not in the stands doing the things that we do. It's a different perspective. I've had class with the two of them. I run things by them all the time and have them help with things and help them when I can. It's a great relationship for us to have. I think that it's a much better relationship side by side as opposed to one being in a higher position than the other.
