...and we're replacing him with Derrick friggen Lowe.
Sad day to be a Braves fan.

I'd much rather have Lowe at this point in his career. When he is on his sinker is almost unhittable, at least for anything other than a weak groundball.

The Braves have several junk-ball types already. They desperately needed a power arm. Vasquez may give that to you but at this point he's a wildcard.
Lowe, Kawakami, and Jairjens top out at maybe 85mph on a good day and while Esocbar is considered one of the best in the game defensively at SS, you have Kelly Johnson at 2B, who is a liability up the middle.

I remember Kelly was actually a fairly nifty shortstop in high school before he started focusing his time almost exclusively on his swing.

The Braves messed up his progression by moving him to the outfield. His bat is about the only thing keeping him on the field, IMO. He's the perfect #2 hitter...the only problem is the Braves have two of those guys (the other being Escobar) and no leadoff.

At least one day in October of 2008 he was nasty...or was that because the Cubs' hitters were having a hard time swinging because both hands were around their throats?

In any case, I'd take him over baldy any day.

The Phillies didn't mind going against him - twice.

Good point. It's probably just that the Cubs make every pitcher they face in October look like Cy Young himself.
