Big South Conference Announces 2006 Football Television Package
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference today announced its football TV package for the 2006 campaign, and a League-record seven games are scheduled to be televised during the year, which surpasses the previous high of six in 2005. The TV slate features two games on Turner South, two games on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS), two contests on South Carolina Educational Television (ETV) and one game on either ESPNU or ESPN Classic. Additional telecasts may be added to the overall schedule at a later date.
Defending co-champion Charleston Southern kicks off the TV coverage when the Bucs’ Sept. 2 season opener at future Big South member Presbyterian College is televised live on ETV at 1:30pm. ETV is available on public television systems in South Carolina and the greater Charlotte area.
Coastal Carolina, which will appear on television a League-high five times in 2006, will play on TV on consecutive weeks – Sept. 16 at Georgia Southern on CSS and Sept. 23 vs. South Carolina State on ETV. Saturday, Oct. 7, will have two Big South teams on the air, as Coastal will host Furman on CSS while VMI will play at Army on either ESPNU or ESPN Classic. The TV schedule concludes in November with two key Big South games on Turner South. Coastal Carolina visits Gardner-Webb on Nov. 11, and hosts Charleston Southern Nov. 18 in a rematch of last season’s Big South title game.
In addition to the seven television broadcasts, two Big South teams will receive national exposure as part of Sirius Satellite Radio’s new I-AA College Football Game of the Week series. Sirius will carry the Sept. 16 Coastal Carolina at Georgia Southern game and the Sept. 30 James Madison at VMI contest. Those games can be heard on Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 122 and the Sports Byline Radio Network.
