To use an example that hits home: people on here talk about how rabid the fans were in the old Liberty Gym. They talk about how loud it was and how great the environment was. Now, because we're in a huge arena, even with 2-3x more (at times) the environment rarely ever comes to that of the old gym.

BrysOn_G wrote:after december, students line up to get into a small stadium. many are turned away. so the more dedicated fans on campus make it into what has been agreed to be the best college bball environment. you can't really define "best fans." however, if you were attempting to generally define it, would you not say the best fans would be ones you'd least likely want to play infront of? i'd say duke ranks at the top of that list.

I think Duke's environment is great and their basketball fans are great as well. What they have done with Kryszxzjflsadjasldk;jgakjscjq2352ski-ville is awesome.

However, I still contend if school like North Carolina, Ohio State, UCLA, Memphis, etc (i.e. schools with good teams and large arenas) were playing in a gym the size of Cameron, the same thing would be happening at those schools for tickets.

We never played at Duke while I was at UNCA...but the two best atmospheres for hoops we traveled to were Kentucky (for the entire atmosphere) and Kansas (the students). Arizona is a pretty good atmosphere, as well.

Count your blessings. I went to a game at Marietta College (if you can guess where it is without googling it, I'll give you +2 rep points) a few weeks back and there four people in the stands. Four.

marietta, ohio. right on the southern border. LC played them in a tournament shortly after christmas a few years ago. pretty nice campus they got there and the field house is nice, especially for a D3 school.

I know Marietta and Rio Grande and all of those little colleges along the river. 4 sounds like a good number.

I went to a couple during the Tim Duncan days. It wasn't quite as rowdy then but then again I was sitting way up top. When they're winning, they pack the place out. The students dissapear when they aren't playing as well.

Yeah, they have a pretty large student section. But they don't have the best seats. I've been to a few of their games. I was at the game where Jason Williams hit the buzzer beater to win the game. Man, that must have been 4 years ago or so. Time flys.

Been there multiple times. The student section back in the Duncan days wasn't that good. Skip Prosser made an effort to get the student section to be good. He started the club they have now, and basically started up Tie Dye Nation. Wake was the school that made Zombie Nation famous 5-6 years ago. They played it going into every media timeout. They put the student section behind a goal and in the corner.

As someone said, when they're not good, their fans aren't either. Now that they're good you see Wake stuff everywhere in Winston.

Also, remember that as a school, they've only got 6000 people total, and that includes the graduate school. We average more students per home football game than they have in their entire school. They're the smallest BCS school in the country.

WORST. I once sat up there in between the 2 big screens. Couldn't see a freakin thing, everyone was drunk and chanting ahole at the lone raiders fan up there.

We know, Rice is the smallest FBS school. That's why I went with BCS.

Wake's student section is looking awesome tonight. They've got flags and everything they're waving. It looks like a European soccer game.

My favorite cheer/chant from the duke fans was: "OUR HOUSE clap clap OUR HOUSE clap clap OUR HOUSE clap clap"

So awesome. I want our fans to start that eventually, but I guess you need to start a significant home winning streak for that to start.

Defending home court is something you'll hear any of the coach's talk about in just a short conversation.
