If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

Over on AGS, the knucklehead writer who covers Appy (and loves to take cheap shots the big South and all of its schools for some reason) is claiming that word down at the SoCon meetings is that VMI has formally petitioned to rejoin the Southern Conference.

At this point it is just rumor and we've been hearing these types of rumblings for some time now. But this could have a huge impact on LU and the Big South. In all likelihood, VMI would knock CCU out of consideration for expansion later this year. But we'd be losing a football team once again from our struggling league.

Anyway, there is no real confirmation on the VMI board or from credible sources as of yet. But I thought I'd pass it along.

Sly, like I said over on AGS, I'll try to talk to Donnie tomorrow and see what he has to say. I'm sure it will be a topic of conversation in Charlotte.

I'm sure you won't be the only one asking them about it the next couple of days. Keep us posted.

And you know I was just giving you a hard time on AGS about Coulson. For some reason that guy goes out of his way to crack on LU and CCU at nearly every turn. Why? I'm not sure.

quick synopsis: we suck, our facilities suck, our programs suck, we're all idiots :x

we should probably cancel all seasons and order the students to all switch to Bible majors now.

what a bunch of haters. Ignorant ones at that. One guys accuses us of having no money (ha, if there's one thing we always seem to fall in to, it's money.) and another guys says we don't even have a Big South championship to our name. Hey retard, there's only been a BS championship for 2 years.

The Liberty-bashing comments aside, the posts over there do have some validity:
1. The program HAS been in the dumper for almost a decade
2. Facilities--the improvements speak for themselves, but the visitor "locker" room, is a joke.

The good thing about JF's I-A dream, is even if it does NOT happen, the changes should allow LU the ammo to move to the "haves" in I-AA. I'd much rather be a I-AA top feeder than a bottom feeder at I-A. I am still amazed at how well Marshall pulled it off--but they did ONLY after a decade of I-AA dominance.

1. That has nothing to do with going 1A
2. Isn't the visitor locker room going to be the old field house? How will that be a joke since that's what our team was using?

If there were any Gardner-Webb fans on here, they'd be upset that you aren't acknowledging the conference's first two seasons that they won.

But they're not because they don't have any fans. But my point remains, it's been a mere 4 years.

Marshall cheated. Well, not quite cheated. They used a loophole in the NCAA rules that allowed them to recruit and sign athletes over and above the I-AA limit of 63 in the years just prior to their jump to I-A. In essence, they signed and "stockpiled" I-A athletes. With the already impressive talent they had on hand, this allowed them to compete right away, particularly in the MAC, especially since that conference is, across the board, only a small step up from the A-10 in terms of talent. Given those circumstances, it's not hard to see why they had so much early success. By the way, the NCAA has since closed that loophole.

So you guys have seen the thread. I guess by now you realize I'm not a doting fan of Mr. C.

It is nice to know that LU has those who take the time to defend our alma mater on other posting boards. Hopefully the football program can rise up from ashes of 1AA football and put these "LU bashers" in their place.

the old field house is NOT going to be used for visitors.

I thought that the old field house opposite the new one was going to be divided into a visitors locker room and 2 locker rooms for high school games. The visitores locker room was supposed to have 3X more room than the old. Just what I heard.

That was the plan. However, about a month ago, the wrestling program got involved. Nothing is at all finalized but right now, there's something in the works about splitting the existing locker room in two and putting the wrestling program in the left side closest to Hancock and football visitors in the right side. I'm not sure what that would mean for LCA.

I thought there was an issue with LCA having the space being a potential NCAA violation??

Haven't heard that one. High schools use college facilities all the time.

Wrestling? why would they move wrestling out there? Could it BE further from where they need to be- are they not still using the wrestling room in Liberty Gym/Schilling?

(not that I doubt you LIB- you're info is good- just saying :? )

That room eventually became the student weight center after the program was disbanded in '94.
