Obviously Coach D's staff is working Houston hard:

Texas Hoops did a story on Sei just this past week. Here's the highlight of the story as far as we are concerned:
"I've gotten an offer from Liberty, and I've been talking to Arizona State, Boston University, Arkansas-Little Rock, Tulane - there's been a lot of schools," Paye said. "They've all said that they're interested, but Liberty is the only one that's said I could go in there and start right away."

Getting the chance to play major minutes immediately is something Paye is definitely looking for, but he's also looking for good academics as well. With their offer, Liberty interests him, but there's another school that he's fond of at the current moment. "I also like Arizona State a lot," Paye said. "Herb Sendek is a legendary coach and he's really good. I think he could really make me successful and get me to the next level."

Here's another interesting tidbit:
JUNIOR WINS "CLUTCH CITY SHOOUTOUT", WINS ROCKETS PEP RALLY

Image

Strake Jesuit junior Sei Paye recently won the Houston Rocket's annual three-point "Clutch City Shootout" contest. After competing against over 120 participants during halftime at Rocket's home games, Paye advanced to the finals where he sealed a victory on his last 3 point attempt with the bonus ball. With the win, Sei secured prizes for the Strake Jesuit basketball program, along with a pep rally for the Strake Jesuit student body given by the Rocket's power dancers here on campus. The pep rally was held on Thursday, April 27 and, at that time, the school was presented a check for $7,500.

Seems as if we have a real good chance with this kid.

I've seen this kid play and he can ball. He's been the star on his large 5A school (one of only two private schools allowed to compete with publics in Texas) since he was a sophomore.

We are very much in the mix for him according to someone with firsthand knowledge from the kid. He's one that may slide between the cracks into our hands.

From my good friend Jim Hicks at RCS Sports posted earlier this week (somehow I missed it up to this point):
I caught up with Sei Paye shortly after he (and Shannon Shorter) returned from their official visit to Liberty. “I had a good time, and it (Liberty) is a good opportunity for both of us to play right away,” stated Paye who went on to add. “I plan to still wait a while to make a decision.” Currently, Paye has a visit on tap for Louisiana Monroe with hopes to getting a peek at SMU, UTSA, Boston University, or Howard. Meanwhile, Shorter still has his eyes on Wichita State and Tulane.

I am not sure how well these guys did on their visit. I don't even know if they were offered or not. I missed out on an opportunity to see them since I wasn't in town. Hopefully I will be there the next time we have recruits on campus. I haven't talked with anyone in the basketball office. These are just observations I made. Usually I hear from someone if they are impressed with their recruits. Maybe everyone is too busy to holla at their boy SCAR :). Not saying we won't get them or will get them though either way.

I believe both had been offered before their visits. I admit I haven't seen Shorter play, but I have seen Paye and he'd be a very nice pickup. There is an update on Sei on Rivals posted yesterday saying something about him being close to a decision. Unfortunately I only have access to Rivals Premium content at work. So if I find the story tomorrow I'll update everybody.

We should know something by Sunday. Its a two-horse race at this point barring any more late offers. Our chances look very good even thoughyt he other school is much closer to home for him.

Liberty vs. LA - Monroe. It is a coin flip and only the prospect has the answer. If he verbally commits, that will allow the program to focus on new recruitng opportunities. He has to be the 2 guard that replaces Blair. If Paye does not choose LU then I am sure the staff is working on other prospects that will be worthy of a schollie.

I'll pass on the answer as soon as I hear it. If he commits, you can count on me being at quite a few Strake games this winter. Its close by my station.

Has anyone see this guy play? He looks to be a serious offensive talent, and we will need that after this season

I've not seen him in person. We've had him in highlights on the air and he has an extremely smooth stroke. Onbiously I will be going out of my way to catch him in person if we get this verbal.

On one of the websites, it says that he has committed, and has called the school he chose to let them know his decision. Of course, did not mention the name of the school. Anyone know anything?

Looks like we lost out on Sei. Good luck to him in Monroe.

For what it's worth, on his visit down here, some of those that saw him play with the guys came away extremely unimpressed.

I had my doubts by his size alone but I have never seen him play. If Korneguy has truely given us a verbal, we may have "overbooked" the gaurd position and not left enough scholorships open for some big bodies down low.
