I think Coach Rocco could do better than Army frankly. The reasons for why he should stay have already been brought up in the other thread. I also am pretty sure that JB is aware of the level of interest in someone like Coach Rocco for coaching openings. I dont think that just because he signed an extension doesnt mean he is going to head for a job just because they come a calling.

I made this statement on here right after Ken signed his and everyone went nuts b/c he didnt deserve it...its only as good as the buyout...the extension is simply a PR thing for recruiting

But yes BJ I agree....he has a ACC job waiting for him in 2 years. Although, what's that old saying? A bird in the hand beats 2 in the bush? Who knows what he's thinking but I dont think we should stress to much.

Danny Rocco is the Liberty coach. He will stay until he is 70 and logs his 250th victory. He will be a living legend on the mountain.

Honestly, even if he did leave, don't you guys think we'd draw a pretty good coach to replace him?

Nothing to worry about except losing guys to transfer and canceling LOI's. And even then I think we'd be alright.

Coach Rocco was 15th in the voting for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award...Mickey Matthews was the winner (He did get a first place vote though):

I'm hearing that Army is going after Rocco pretty hard. I'd like to hear what Rocco has to say. I guess we all knew that others would come calling once he turned the program around here. The question is what is he thinking at this point?

I really don't think that Rocco would leave unless a substantial increase in money was thrown at him. I think that he would like to get us in the playoffs and maybe if we could get a win or 2 in postseason then he would raise his stock and go to a higher calibre team than Army maybe an ACC program. Hopefully Coach Rocco will show some patience in this whole deal. Besides he has a lot of family here and why would he leave that just for Army.

Under Ellerson, Cal Poly has run an option-style attack -- and, judging by his record there, run it very well -- that is probably a better fit to Army and the type of athletes they can recruit.
