not surprising at all, Sampson's programs are nothing short of a prison.

EJ's little brother needs to steer clear of Bloomington and head to his father's alma mater where a Hoosier native is ready to coach him.

Sad that Coach Meyer was even remotely connected to that mess

Man, I feel bad for Tom Crean. I think he knew what he was getting into though. Didn't really understand why he took that job.

If they give him enough time there to turn that program around, he'll be one popular coach. Somehow, someway Indiana still has a large following an administration that is behind the program.

It's a dream job for a lot of coaches.

Crean wanted that job. Indiana has alot of history, we are a basketball state. More high school basketball courts than any other state. The wealth of talent is just ready to be tapped and get em to come to IU again instead of other Big Ten schools (i.e. Greg Oden) We will be good again and we will dominate the Big Ten, but I think it will at least be another year.

yeah, you've basically got a team full of D3 players right now. And you're right about it being a basketball state. It's like Nebraska football. There's unrealistic expectations and pressure. I just think it was a crazy job to take.

Initally it looks that way & in fact could turn out to be a disaster for Crean- but considering what Coach K has done at Duke in his career with no previous success & the historical pressure on Tobacco Road.. I'd say there's more upside for Crean than downside- if he fails, it would be hard to blame him directly with everything going on prior to his involvement- so I don't believe there's immediate pressure to succeed- he has essentially a hallpass for a few years before expectations set in.. Even if he fails, I can't see any pther program holding that against him (assuming no major problems arise & it's just a lack of success) for another job were he to move on.. The admin at IU is a joke- love him or hate him- Bob Knight never came close to any of this stuff that they're seeing now..

College kids use drugs??!!?? No way

I thought they werent introduced to that stuff until they actually made it to the pros. Oh well

IMO thats just a disgruntled kid trying to sink the floating poop that is Kelvin Sampson's career.

I dunno- Gordon was pretty much just passing the time at IU until he went pro anyways.. It could be that as you never really know, but what does he have to gain from it?? IMO Nothing at all- Sampson & co are already gone and really all it does is put Gordon in a bad spot if it wasn't true.. my thoughts is he's spot on..

Kingaling42 I completely agree that the administration is a joke....Crean will turn this team around he has Big Ten and midwesr experience and hopefully he will get back to recruiting Indiana players like the great times of yrs past.......and Bobby Knight is and always will be the best.....

I dont think hes lying or mistaken either. I dont think these types of scenarios are rare though. Kids use drugs and coaches have a tough time getting them to change. Now if you are coaching a top notch team, its a tough judgement call as to whether to deal with it and possibly ruin your tenure(if is 3 bball players thats tough to overcome) or to do what you can and hope for the best.

Not condoning what the guy did, but everything hes done can be argued as common in college sports

it's going to take 3 years to get that program turned around to dominating the big 10 status, two if they are lucky.

Id say 2 to 3 to contend, not dominate.

Question is, how long does it take the program to heal? Id say longer than 5

In our "what have you done for me lately" mindsets- I say as soon as success comes this stuff will be forgotten (mostly!).. some people will always remember but put up some positives, get some recruits, win some games, keep up positive press- folks will have a short memory.. I won't put a number of years on it- just "Win Baby!!" And they will forget!!

as far as i'm concerned, Indiana deserved this after the way they treated Bobby Knight. How ironic is it that they get a coach who didn't graduate players and had a buttload of ncaa violations after Bobby Knight left, who had a ridiculously high graduation rate and I can't recall one ncaa violation under his tenure (if there was one, it was so insignificantly minor the media didn't even cover it).

ok i think its known that im a huge Bob Knight fan but how did we (IU and IU fans) deserve this? Bob Knight was let go for a reason, I think it could have been handled better but he had to be disciplined winningest coach or not. Hoosier will back whoever is at the well Knight, Sampson, Davis, or Crean.
