I know this was discussed somewhat in discussion about bringing the excitement back to LU Football, but wanted to throw out a hook to see what people would like to hear played and learn what the stipulations are for aural melodius consumption within the confines of the William Stadium. I ask because I remember when I was there late 90's, they incessantly played this ho-down, hill-billy type song...good for a laugh when you here it once, annoying after the fifteenth time they played it. So, here 's one to start the discussion in case the programming powers ever read this thread (stranger things in life have happened...Paris Hilton was honored with an honorary degree from Yale the other day, okay just kidding, but the thread could provide a lively debate about what people want to hear on a Saturday Afternoon/Night in the Firepit...)

Yep, that's the one. It comes on when I am at the Texas Roadhouse where I live, and it's like a Pavlov's Dog or Skinner's Box experience...shutter.

Its "Rock 'n Roll, part 2" by Gary Glitter.

he's a pedophile, so that may put a damper on things.

Anything thats not so soft and slow. We need some hard rock music to get people in the mood for football.

Entrance music needs to be like something with a siren or something cool like that. When I was in college i went to Western Carolina and we had sirens going off before the team hit the field and we loved it.

Walk Through The Fire

Walk through the fire
Walk through the fire (walk through the fire)
Through the dust and ashes
While the building crashes
Walk through the flame (walk through the fire)
No trace of indecision
Lion keep his vision clear

Moving out
Across the water
The wet leaves quiver in the heat
Darkness heavy on my shoulder
Smell the smoke, sickly sweet
The body’s weak, the shadow’s strong

Walk through the fire (walk through the fire)
Through the dust and ashes
While the building crashes
Walk through the flame (walk through the fire)
Lion show no sign of fear

Walk through the fire (walk through the fire)
Through the dust and ashes
While the building crashes
Walk through the flame (walk through the fire)
No time for doubt or caution
Taken by the strong emotion
Walk through the fire (walk through the fire)
No trace of indecision
Lion hold his vision clear

(walk, walk, walk)

Walk through the fire (walk through the fire)
Walking in the path of angel
Walk on down below, walk on down below
Walk on down below, walk on down below

U2

Fire

Falling, falling
The sun is burning black.
Falling, falling
It’s beating on my back,
With the fire.
Falling, falling
And the moon is running red.
It’s pulling me instead, with the fire.
Fire.

But there’s a fire inside.
I’m falling over.
There’s a fire in me.
And I call out.
And I feel some fire.
I’m calling out.
The stars are falling down.
They knock me to the ground.
With the fire, fire.

And there’s a fire inside.
When I’m falling over,
There’s a fire in me.
When I call out,
There’s a fire inside.
When I’m falling over,
I feel the fire.
I’m burning fire, falling.

The chorus from Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire":
We didn't start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world's been turning
We didn't start the fire
No we didn't light it
But we tried to fight it

Looks like the mood music isn't only up for discussion for LUFB games. Here's an excerpt from a question/answer with the Univ. of Richmond Athletic Director:
Jim:

Is there any way to change the music that is played at the football and basketball games? Music change would have an impact on the crowd and get them more pumped up and involved in the game. I have heard a lot of people complaining about it this year at the football games so I thought I would inquire as it bothers me also.

Scott
Richmond

Scott:

Our event management staff, along with SpiderComm (Marketing/Public Relations) is constantly working to improve the gameday atmosphere at both UR Stadium and the Robins Center.

Although music selection is obviously a very subjective issue, this group is trying hard to change and improve what you hear at the stadium and at the arena. Their ultimate goal is to find the right mix that will pump up the crowd and the team.

Having said that, even more importantly, we are moving forward with plans for a new scoreboard and sound system at the Robins Center - not this year, but in the very near future. This will have a major impact on what you see and hear on game night.

We are always interested in what our fans are thinking about the atmosphere at games. As you attend basketball games this winter, please feel free to let us know your thoughts. We're listening!

This looks like a rebuilding season. It is a tough schedule for a Club in Transition with exception of the first two games. I predict the Team wins against these small Schools that I am not even sure are NCAA Division 1 AA programs, St. Paul's and Glenville State? I believe Glenville is from West Virginia. I think they are either NAIA or Division 3. The only other win I see is in the Big South is against VMI. 3-8 for 06 but there may be some surprises as the Flames football program developes. William and Mary, Wake Forest, Towson, Savannah State, and Western Carolina will all be very very tough. The other Big South Foes like Coastal and Gardner Webb along with Chuck South have always played tough against LU.

Best of Luck to LU Football.

Ok, I don't want to sound like a jerk, but you obviously don't know what you're talking about. Glenville St and St. Pauls are Division II. Savannah State hasn't won a I-AA game in maybe 2 years. They lost to a large amount of DIIs last year. We should win at least four games (the 3 you mentioned and VMI). The thing is, we've got another thread strictly for that. This one was about music.

SJ:

You are not being a jerk. But that is ok, a lot of folks from LU have acted like jerks to me. I'm sorry I put this on the wrong thread. Ok, they will win 4 games and maybe upset another Big South Team and win 5. Just we all need to understand that this is a transition season and it will be an uphill road. Good things about to come and in time LU may do something on the National Level in Football. On St. Paul's and Glenville State, I'm sorry they are such small programs I have never heard of them. But what do I know I am a Lacrosse junkie.

All the best,
