Liberty adds shooting guard Tre Lee to '09 class
Shooting guard Tre Lee from Hampton, Va. (Bethel) verbally committed to Liberty over the weekend. The 6-foot-5 Lee chose the Flames over St. Louis, George Washington, George Mason, Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth.
"Tre's an Honor Roll student here and is a full qualifier for next season," Craig Brehon told ESPN.com. "He's exactly the type of player (Liberty head coach) Ritchie McKay is looking for. His upside is tremendous and his basketball I.Q. is off the charts. He should step in right away and make an impact at Liberty because he is such a knowledgeable kid. Plus, he can pretty much guard anyone with his length and athleticism."

How does this end up on ESPN and FF has nothing on the guy.

Somebody needs to come up with some info on Mr. Lee.

He goes to Bill Weaver's high school.

He's from England.

He's really good.

The plan was for him to sign the papers during the signing period but apparently there was a hold up since his parents are still in England or something like that. I don't know all of the details.

He committed after our home scrimmage.

So, that solidifies our 2009 class as:

Minaya
Vander Pol
Lee

I'm assuming we don't have any other roster spots? Every year we seem to have one or two drop off the radar...however, I can't see anyone from this group leaving.

I think there may be some confusion here. Tre has a teammate named Ovie Soko (6'8" forward) whom we have also been recruiting, and he is from England. I think Tre is home grown.

Ok, yeah, that's what I was thinking. My bad. Didn't actually read the article. I just saw Bethel HS and assumed it was the same guy.

Actually a scout's grade of 86 is not bad at all. 6'5", long arms, smart kid, good shooter. I bet we really like him when he hits the floor next fall. It will be great to add some depth and not have everyone playing 35-40 minutes.

The best thing I've read on him:
A winner (57-3 over his sophomore and junior seasons) that understands the small components of a winning program, such as chasing loose balls, setting screens and making effort plays.

he comes from about as good of a basketball area as you'll ever find outside the MAJOR areas like chicago, nyc, etc. the va beach/norfolk/hampton/etc. area is loaded with talent every year. if this kid can be a pretty good player, on an apparently really good team from that area, then I'm sold on his ability to contribute at the mid-low major level if he's placed in the position where he can best succeed - sure Liberty is playing above the low major level this year, but they will still be considered low major until they can prove otherwise over the long haul.

Where does the schollie come from?

Vander Pol
Lee
Minaya

Sanders
Curry
Floyd
Weaver
McMasters
A. Smith
Stephene

J. Anderson

Ohman
Baker

That's 13 already? Plus we'll atleast hold a roster spot for James Spencer.

There is no limit on roster spots........... only scholarships.

We have 12 on scholarship now (including Minaya).
-Smitty
+ Vander Pol
+ Lee
=13

If we get the full scholarship complement back as expected, that puts us at the limit. If we have someone else coming in, then someone needs to go. I have an idea, but it's too speculative even for FF.

I've gotten a couple of PMs from people with the same idea as me. Since I'm "anonomous" and they aren't I'll be the one to post it. Keep in mind this is not based on any inside information and is pure speculation. It just makes sense to me.

We have a scholarship which has produced 10 minutes of playing time in the last 2 years.
