What's the best new thing that came out this year (and I'm not talking about Ray Boltz).

iphone case for the blind and visually impaired. probably won't ever catch on due to the fact the blind and visually impaired aren't in the target market for an iphone, but to make a touch screen phone completely devoid of buttons usable for the blind and visually imparied is pretty innovative in my opinion.

OK maybe not all that innovative other than being a mid engine sports car that only weighs just over 3600 lbs. and gets 420hp out of a fairly standard V8. Also, most typical "Supercars" don't get that good of milage because thy typically have V10s or V12s. OK sorry pardon the gear head and move on.

The Itouch screen for the blind IS more innovative. The car is cooler!

1. A device that turns any liquid, even contaminated or dirty liquids including human waste, sea water or puddles, into medicinal grade distilled water and can also generate electricity through an integrated stirling engine [which was originally invented by a Scottish Clergyman in 1816...Trivia Tidbit for Cider's Quiz Bowl research.]

Kamen has stipulated they will cost between $1000 and $2000 and can generate 1,000 liters/day of clean drinking water. If I were a missionary in a third world country or any country with limited clean water access/supply, this would be first on my Christmas wishlist from my sponsoring churches. http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/he ... 890581.php >Video with Colbert http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/23/dean ... th-slings/

2. And another interesting innovation that the Aeronautics and Engineering minds at LU might be interested in as the creation of the newly minted Engineering School and Aeronautics School is coinciding with the popular/political/market push for green technology (the next investment bubble in the making after the commodities bull market reaches it's peak in several years...although we are still many years away from dot.com style investment mania, for those keeping score at home, but I digress.) If LU Engineering wants to capitalize on the growth trends, making green tech one niche in the program may prove to be a prudent long term move. http://www.popsci.com/military-aviation ... tric-plane

In August, at the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Randall Fishman’s ElectraFlyer-C made a virtually silent pass over the audience at a mere 200 feet. What they were seeing (but not hearing) might be the world’s first fully electric-powered airplane—representing, said one EAA official, “a groundbreaking technology that would be aviation’s first true alternative to a fossil-fuel engine...”

...Now Fishman is taking his creation to the public. He sells kits on his Web site (http://www.electraflyer.com/ videos) that include the batteries and electrical propulsion components. By mid-2010, he plans to offer ready-to-fly electric two-seat planes.
