Eric Kennedy
5'7" 170 DB & RB (4.59 40 time)
Reidsville, NC (Rockingham County)

beRecruited Profile

1st team all conference in his junior year

He had 5 interceptions and 79 tackles, with 2 TD's last season for the Cougars...

He doesn't have a rivals profile or anything yet and I am working on putting together a highlight tape for him. I have seen this kid play and he was the best player on the field each time I have seen him play. Unfortunately he is one of the only good players on his team! He is a good kid and definitely a Liberty Kid. He would be a good safety for our team. He can hit and forced two fumbles in one game I saw him play in. He also had a few interceptions. He plays both ways and is a good running back for the team too, although I think if he comes here he will be best used as a safety.

I think he would be too small to be a DB, maybe RB but still too small for my choice

29 Alfonso Bailey DB Sophomore 5-9 185 Fort Myers, Fla.
2 Patrick Calvary DB Senior 5-9 180 Bradenton, Fla.
31 Donald Manns DB Junior 5-10 180 Jacksonville, Fla.
14 Chris Rocco DB Junior 5-10 200 Forest, Va.
27 Tim Torrence DB Junior 5-8 165 Miramar, Fla.
30 Mannie Willis DB R-Junior 5-10 200 Newport News, Va.

These are all DB's on our roster that are 5'10" or shorter. Eric will probably grow a few inches in his senior year and once he gets in the weight room here under Gillespie, he will probably put on 15 pounds in muscle. So I think once he actually gets here he will be more like 5'9" and 185 pounds.

This is by no means an official statement on the kid, but just from seeing the types of guys we're bringing in here, he'd really, really have to improve that 40 time.

Considering that high schools typically fudge their player's 40 times, agreed. Sounds like a decent walk-on candidate though.

And most athletes also fudge their heights

Eric knows that he needs to improve his 40 time a lot and he also would really like to grow a few inches, although he can't really control that! He works really hard and I think he will get faster. I asked him what his 40 time was and he laughed and said... "slow, I need to work on that". He'll get better and if he grows a little bit he might be a good recruit. Like I said, this kid is a head hunter and he hits HARD!

one thing to remember about a player's 40 time is that sometimes, though their 40 time may be a little slow, their game speed may be faster. For some reason, people tend to run faster when someone is chasing them

Actually, the exact opposite is true since football is rarely ever played running in a straight line.

I would think both are true, based on a players agility, change of direction ability, vision, and reaction time

I would agree with you, since there is a difference between a guy being "fast" and being "quick"...The comment I made above about game speed was based on what I've heard from coaches at both the high school and collegiate level.

And this kid is quick. He has field vision and seems to be in on every play. If he grows next season and improves that 40 time, he will be a good recruit at an FCS school...

Also I know that he has been getting interest from Appy State, Nc State, and Elon...

Change of direction is huge for any skill player to be an elite athlete. If the guy can play he can play height really only matters to the big schools because they have choices. They can choose a 5' 7" or a 6' 2" guy to play safety they will probably pick the taller guy if he they are comparable atheletes. If he can play get his film into the coaches.

working on that. Although his coach is kinda a jerk. But his athletic director went to Liberty! He's hopefully going to help out!

Eric ran the 40 again in an off season workout and he has already improved it. His fastest time was a 4.59 and his slowest was 4.63.

I am working on getting a highlight video of his junior year.
Coaching changes

It appears your intel was on the mark.
