Thats true

As for the conference getting better in football, I think as a whole our GPI improved from last year. May be wrong

Just remember, the Big South didnt kill us. We did it to ourselves

I don't agree with that. That means we would have had to go 11-1 or 12-0 to make it with the mindset the committee had.

This conference is terrible. I'm not saying I have a solution, but I don't have to, since I couldn't do anything about it, anyways. I'm just saying I have a problem, and that problem is VMI, Gardner Webb, Coastal, Presby, Chuck South, and Stony Brook. If we are ever going to get anywhere, it won't be by playing this crap year after year.

How is the Big South on it's way up? Stony Brook is an okay addition... but Coastal is nosediving hardcore, CSU will never be more than mediocre, VMI is terrible and I hope they get added to the PL, G-W always seems to not be as good as advertised... there's nothing good here! There's us. We're good. But this conference drags us down. You aren't going to convince me that this program has a future in this joke of a conference.
so what are you accomplishing by completely flipping out? i'm seriously asking what are you hoping to accomplish by yelling and telling people to shut up? i don't see you accomplishing anything but making a fool of yourself. if you think we need to change conferences, maybe you should start a petition or write a letter or something. or maybe you should calm down and come back tomorrow when you are a little calmer.

I know that won't go through your thick head, but I'm just making the point. Ok i'm done its bball season

What if we would have beaten Presby ...but lost to Elon..Would we be in? I think not. You cant be expected to win em all and most teams dont......i.e. Maine loses 4 and still gets in.

Which is what we said in the beginning of the year. Yes, no teams in our conference are respectable, but our losses came outside the conference.

I do think the Big South is trying to improve, but I think we didn't make the playoffs because of our lack-luster conference. I think this team is much better than their record. I think we lost to Laffy because of our cupcake schedule and we weren't ready to play a team that is close to being on the same level as our talent. We lost to Presby because we didn't show up. I think we didn't show up because we got used to our sucky conference. We are so much better than every team in our conference. If we left the Big South, this conference would be dead. And it probably should be...

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College has announced that it will no longer sponsor its football program effective immediately.

"It is with a heavy heart and careful deliberations that we have come to this extremely difficult decision," said Director of Athletics Patrick Lyons. “The dissolution of the MAAC Football League after the 2007 season and the lack of equitable opponents in Division I FCS football was the main factor in the decision.”

Coastal Carolina @ LU 10/17/09

LU @ Charleston Southern 10/24/09

Presbyterina @ LU 10/31/08

VMI @ LU 11/07/08

LU @ Gardner-Webb 11/14/08

ToTheLeft wrote:Yeah, I'm stupid alright. I'd rather have us build a program that can win, rather than one that doesn't ever get battle tested, gets no respect, and loses in the first round of the playoffs every year.

Give me good competition to prove we belong, or go down to DII and play with the patsies.

No more of this in between mediocre bullcrap.
I understand you're upset about not making the playoffs again, but LU's come a long way since 2006. With the autobid coming soon, a conference championship will mean a berth. But before you start slamming the rest of the teams in this conference as crappy and not helping you get anywhere, remember that you guys used to be a joke. You've improved light years from where you used to be. You had two tough losses this season, but it happens. There's an adage: don't **** where you eat. LU is a conference champion. To hate on the conference and all the other teams in it is like saying, "Yeah, I hold a Ph.D. from X University. It sucks so bad though; the academics there are a joke." Blame the selection committee, not the Big South.

Tell me to calm down, then insult me.

Class act.

I'm sorry that I'm upset that my team got screwed. Maybe if you cared as much about the team as I did, you'd be mad, too...

had presby been a full conference member instead of transitional, the loss may have been been better to the committee. again until we get an automatic bid we will have to be near flawless. and we are not going anywhere. the big south is our conference and as long as we continue to do what we have been in two years? we will be in the playoffs wih an automatic bid.

I have calmed down enough to think somewhat logically.

After the PC game we ALL felt with 100% certainty we were done. The team thought otherwise and battled their fannies off the final games...with a stellar performance yesterday. We thought teams "above" us had lost enough ground to get in. They did lose but one got chosen ahead of it. Yeah...it stinks...it hurts...but I am one danged proud faculty member and FlameFan for how this team and coaching staff regrouped and finished the season strong.

Oh yeah, nothing against the team or coaches at all. We finished in amazing fashion, I don't think anyone could have expected a finish like that. I am proud to be a fan of the team that dominated Elon on Saturday...

If we beat JMU, Laffy, NC Central, sweep the conference, and keep the West Virginia game respectable, then a year from now we can still sit here with our fingers crossed just hoping we will make it, just to get passed over for another 8-4 team. The only way we make the playoffs next year is if we beat WVU. Maybe we will make it if we go 10-1 with the one loss being to WVU. But I think even then they will somehow find a way to leave us out until we get the autobid.

I was in the FOC with the team when the bracket was released...and I gotta say I am for one of the few times in my life absolutely, genuinely...

ticked OFF!!! These guys gave it everything they had this year. These seniors went from 1-10 and nearly walking away from the program to the best record in school history. They beat TWO teams ranked in the top 25. They did something that very few Liberty teams could do in recent history....win ON THE ROAD...and the selection committee because they are the CAA ***wipe decided to let in a 4 loss team that couldnt even finish in the top half of their conference. I am sitting here in my room and I am trying to keep myself from throwing furniture.

I'm far from being an expert, and am from Maine, but this is irritating. If we outranked Maine, then why are they in before us? WE have the better record, ... and surely that thumping of Elon should have said something about who we were, and where we were at the end of the season when it especially counted.

Caps probably don't belong, but there ought to be several minutes allowed for outrage. No true fan could be happy about this. It's one of those things you never completely get over!

Great post and agreed. Heck of a season and heck of a performance put on yesterday by the entire team and coaches.

hate to repeat what others have been saying...but we screwed ourselves with that loss at Presby...do I think we should've made it over Maine? of course...but I can also understand the thought process...you can't just not show up against a team like Presby and expect good things to happen...

its been a great season...but i guess we'll have to wait til another time to experience the playoffs...

To the left:

During my freshman year in 1989 we had to play our first three games off campus at Lynchburg City Stadium. The stadium was completed in time for the rest of the season. That year our starting QB got hurt in the first games and the backup QB lead the team to a 7-0 record and a Top 10 ranking in the 1-AA Poll. The coach then brought backl the starter and we went 1-3 over the last four games. I know who you feel. I have been waiting a long time for the football team to get into the 1-AA (I will still call it 1-AA not matter what the continue to call it) playoffs.

We did not have the VInes Center for basketball (MBALL & WBALL played in the Schilling Center), the Football Operations Center, Demoss was one floor, etc. What I sm trying to say to you is that LU has been blessed by being in the BIG SOTUH CONFERENCE. We have dominated the conference in champioships and have had national exposure that some schools the size of LIBERTY would dream of. In 1994 Dr. Falwell was interview on CBS when LLIBERTY played UNC in the NCAA MEN"S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT. We were actually beating UNC 46-45 with 9:54 to play, but they went on a 20-1 run to beat us.

Don't knock the conference just because the football team did not make the playoffs. Our slessl was only founded in 1971 and we are competing with schools that were founded in the 1800's and early 1900's. Trust me we have come a long way and the football team will have the hardest journey of all.
God has bless this school in athletics and will continue to do so, as long as we honor God in our athletic pursuits.
