Now one bit of advice to all Liberty Flames: this is in reality a playoff game....don't tell me how rough the ocean is, just bring the ship in.

By the way, Woody Hayes once said you win with people. I think it applies to you folks and your team.

Go Flames.
thanks for your support :) GO FLAMES!

Extra yardage: Saturday marks Senior Day for 23 Liberty players. ... This series began in 1976. It's the first time Elon and Liberty are meeting as Top 25-ranked foes in the Football Championship Subdivision. ... Elon has won five of the last six meetings, with Liberty's lone victory in that span coming in both teams' 2004 season finale in Lynchburg, Va. ...

Elon and Liberty competed as Big South Conference counterparts in 2002 before Elon left the following year to join the Southern Conference. ... Liberty has won 13 of its last 14 home games, mostly in front of packed crowds. The Flames have sold out 12,000-seat Williams Stadium in 11 of their last 12 home appearances. ...
They do have some injury updates for the Phoenix ...
Elon fullback Tim Applegate (foot sprain, calf pull) and safety Walker White (shoulder) have practiced this week and are expected to play today. Applegate has played sparingly in the last two games. White hasn't played since Oct. 11, a span of four missed games.

I know it's just life, but after the inspirational posts we have read here, and the people driving hours to be at the game, and the magnitude of the moment, it's kind of sad to hear that the student body may not be all that excited.

It's America, & they don't have to be, but sitting here in California, you'd just like to think that the students in the 'Burg were counting the hours to kick-off.

So, uh, I was just out in the stadium and the wind is whipping through there like crazy. Bring a coat, scarf, hat or something. Hand warmers. Build a fire. Get an IV of hot chocolate.

If the dog is not barking tomorrow and the weather is the same....it won't take long for the fleas to jump and run.

I'm hoping I thaw out from a night on the sidelines at Gretna by gametime tomorrow.

Went to Doc's Diner tonight at 6:00 (under new management--thanks, Sly), and the place was packed out with college-age students. I hope they stay around for the football game tomorrow at 1:00. By the way, the food was good and served in a very timely matter.

Not getting much love from CSN.

The Flames will come out raucous, but Elon’s Phoenix will have the last laugh. They’ll school Liberty’s defense - and get their first-ever invite to the FCS playoffs as a result.

Elon 44, Liberty 28

It's game day--and 21 degrees outside this morning! Like Super said, bundle up, dress in layers, smuggle in some hot chocolate, and sit with other warm bodies in the stadium. Go Flames!

Phoenix faces playoff like scenario heading into finale

Four days ago, Elon University football coaches entered their respective position meetings ready to install game-plan details.

But first, they issued the following announcement: Welcome to Week 1 of the playoffs.

And while that's technically one weekend off target in terms of the postseason start-up date for the Football Championship Subdivision, it's a line of thinking that appears to be dead-eye accurate.
