This may be the only football game in North America that could get me to put my boys in the car at 4am Saturday morning, drive 8 hours from Columbus, Ohio and miss the Ohio State v Michigan Game. But there's no place I'd rather be than supporting these young men, and their families, whom I've watched from a distance. I'm looking forward to my 3rd Flames game and my first in Virginia. Now one bit of advice to all Liberty Flames: this is in reality a playoff game....don't tell me how rough the ocean is, just bring the ship in.

By the way, Woody Hayes once said you win with people. I think it applies to you folks and your team.

Elon fullback Tim Applegate (foot sprain, calf pull) and safety Walker White (shoulder) have practiced this week and are expected to play today. Applegate has played sparingly in the last two games. White hasn't played since Oct. 11, a span of four missed games.

I know it's just life, but after the inspirational posts we have read here, and the people driving hours to be at the game, and the magnitude of the moment, it's kind of sad to hear that the student body may not be all that excited.

It's America, & they don't have to be, but sitting here in California, you'd just like to think that the students in the 'Burg were counting the hours to kick-off.

Went to Doc's Diner tonight at 6:00 (under new management--thanks, Sly), and the place was packed out with college-age students. I hope they stay around for the football game tomorrow at 1:00. By the way, the food was good and served in a very timely matter.

Four days ago, Elon University football coaches entered their respective position meetings ready to install game-plan details.

But first, they issued the following announcement: Welcome to Week 1 of the playoffs.

And while that's technically one weekend off target in terms of the postseason start-up date for the Football Championship Subdivision, it's a line of thinking that appears to be dead-eye accurate.
