Ft. Myers News-Press wrote:Evangelical Christian's Vander Pol signs with Liberty University basketball

With his 6-foot-2 father, Allen, crediting his 6-2 1/2 foot mother, Marcia, for his tall genes, Evangelical Christian School’s Joel Vander Pol signed his letter of intent today with 3-point-loving, lightning-tempo Liberty University.

“I’m really excited to go there,” said 6-foot-10 Vander Pol, who joins a program that this year features 10 guards, with just two forwards and one center.

“They just run all the time,” said Vander Pol, who averaged 16 points, 10.9 rebounds and 7.3 blocks per game for the Sentinels last season. “That’s what they look for in a big man is a running guy.”

To answer the Kenny questions ...
RCS Sports wrote:Speaking of Kenny Onyechi, the grapevine tells me he's changed his mind (again) on what college he'll attend. The once Rice pledge, recently turned Liberty commit, has annouced he will sign with Long Island University next month. "He wants to major in pharmacy, and Long Island has a great pharmacy school," stated Kenny's mother. For clarity, I asked if Liberty had a pharmacy school. "No, he would've had to go through the pre med at Liberty, while at Long Island, Kenny can go right into pharmacy school." Obviously, this is one of those rare situations whereas a family is using basketball as a tool, as opposed to allowing basketball to use them. Kenny played the summer circuit with the Southwest Celtics program.

Incidentally RCS has a ton of updates on John Caleb who has been on fire already as a junior. He is a scoring machine.

I found this old quote from Ed that shows how last year's recruiting class was ranked by ESPN, so Vander Pol (at #80) is ranked right up there with our big 3:
Ed Dantes wrote:I was just perusing around ESPN Insider and I saw their high school basketball recruiting page, and saw the following for Liberty's rankings:

Liberty:
Carter McCasters - 80
Austin Smith - 73
Seth Curry - 71

That's what I thought. I really thought Carter was ranked higher than Seth. Lets hope this kid lives up to the hype...

I have to say that I cannot do anything but commend a kid who is a sought after athlete, but actually makes his decision of a school based on his career path and the academic programs offered. Best wishes to Kenny, and based on what happened with the verbals that did not work out for us last year and who we ended up with, I believe there is someone as good or better out there for us.
