There will be two dating contests presented by Crown Sterling. The first dating contest will consist of a girl interviewing three possible suitors. The suitors are freshmen Seth Curry, Carter McMasters and Bill Weaver. The second dating contest will feature freshman Jesse Sanders interviewing three female suitors. The winners of each contest will enjoy a date at Crown Sterling.

There will also be a couple two-ball shootout competitions, which will involve a player, fans, Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. and Athletics Director Jeff Barber. The fan who tallies the most points will be awarded two tickets to Liberty’s Nov. 25 contest at Virginia. Other prizes include an iTunes gift card for the winner of the Dizzy Trike race.

The event will conclude with a 12-minute scrimmage, giving fans the first glimpse of the 2008-09 men’s hoops squad. Come out to “Madness on the Mountain” to cheer on the Flames as they gear up for their Nov. 14 season opener, when the Montreat Cavaliers invade the Vines Center for a 9:15 p.m. tipoff.

How about the much improved KO? And nobody has mentioned the obvious Curry. Everyone wants to see what he can do, and how he can come in right away providing excitement!

The part I'm looking forward to the most is the scrimmage to get a taste of how well the team is meshing. I mean, yeah we have an incredible freshmen class in our midst but when the season comes are they going to get past the trying to prove themselves part to play for the win?

Left the office for dinner at the Food Court at the mall and made it back ot campus by 6:15. Noticed that the big inflatable eagle they use for football games was positioned outside the entrance of Schilling, so I had to go take a look 45 minutes before the big event. Saw one LU staff member sitting front and center, ready and waiting for some action. No bleachers were pulled out, but they brought in was looks like the "Red Zone" endzone bleachers with the red plastic seats bolted to them, which didn't look like very much seating at all.

Comments on the pre-game activities...

The Good: Curry won the dating contest
The Bad: Baker was wearing his boot and did not play (hopefully it was just his off day from practicing) :medic
The Ugly: I forgot to charge my digital camera's battery, and it died during the dunk contest

Comments on the scrimmage:

Ohman has some hops--he had a couple of fast break dunks in traffic
Weaver had the most impressive combination of dunks in the scrimmage: I lost count but maybe 3 or 4
Austin Smith is not flashy, but he gets the job done, tipping in missed shots, very much like Soro from SCAR's generation
Carter was a pleasant surprise--rebounding, blocking shots, and even hitting a long 3 ball
Sanders will be a very capable point, and he's tall and athletic enough to pull down the long rebounds

The dunking in the scrimmage was better than the dunk contest.......by far. Not a lot of defense played.

I agree with CJ about CARTER. He looks awkward at times and may not be a low post presence offensively, but he is a defensive presence in the paint and had some nice boards as well as being a 3 point threat. If Baker and Austin Smith are a legit 6'9", then Carter is at least 7 foot even. He towers over Smith.

We have at least 4 players we can run ally oop plays with.... probably more.

I've never seen a player smile as much as Sanders. He looks like he is having an absolute blast out there.

Sorry, guys--I meant CARTER. He also had some nice dunks in the contest. Ohman's contest dunk involved taking off his shirt in the process of dunking!

I can imagine Carter trailing a lot of fast breaks, and then them kicking the ball back out to him for a 3: look for that type of rotation a lot this year. If Baker really is hurt, I don't know who we'll start at the 5. Maybe Austin or Brolin? I see Carter coming off the bench, at least early in the season.

I don't think Baker is hurt. I know he practices half as much in an effort not to re injure his foot. I'm sure walking around in a boot is a similar measure.

KO is... much improved and just as arrogant if not more so. but he did surprise me and looked good, granted with absolutely no defense against him.
carter looked good
seth looked good as expected, he was droppin the 3 ball like crazy especially when teamed up with jerry in the celebrity thing
brolin is a friggin beast
weaver is dunking anything within 8 ft of the basket
stephene can shoot decent, but i'm holding my judgement until i see him play more. same with austin and jesse

we can dunk and shoot...no idea if we can play defense or not...but it was a lot of fun and the season should be an entertaining one

Is this Weaver? This would be a great desktop if it wasn't for the flamessports.com in the middle.

Also, does anyone know if the people who won the dating game are actually going to go out or was it just for prizes?

Impossible!

Does this mean we'll get more chest pounding and holding the follow through up in the air for 5 minutes (as they are running the court beating him to the other end)
