sly......more people on this board know of paul brown than you think. in any regard this should be a closer game than last year, but i still think we will prevail.

Though a berth in the 16-team FCS playoff field is now a serious longshot for Liberty’s football team, the season isn’t over. Far from it. The Flames still have a number of goals within reach in the season’s final three weeks, starting with today’s game at VMI.

Liberty has a nine-game conference win streak and is looking to become the league’s first back-to-back outright champion since Gardner-Webb won titles in 2002 and 2003. No Big South team has ever finished with consecutive undefeated league seasons, something Liberty (7-2, 3-0 Big South) can do if it beats the Keydets today at Foster Stadium and Gardner-Webb next week at home.

Liberty and Virginia Military Institute will be seeking breakthroughs when they meet at 1:30 p.m. today in Lexington: Liberty in the big picture of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, VMI in the small picture of the Big South Conference.

Liberty never has been to the FCS playoffs (formerly I-AA). With the Big South lacking an automatic berth, Liberty's only way in is an invitation. Its chances of landing one of the eight at-large bids took a stock market-like dive last week in an upset loss to Presbyterian.
