Villanova lost to the #1 ranked team in the country on the last play of the game. Elon lost to a team ranked right next to them. They will drop but not much. Plus Lafayette will leap frog us. They're not going to move us up much, if any, until we beat Elon.

Furman lost at App St. They're not dropping much.

Tennessee St will drop.

Jacksonville St lost to the #1 team in the OVC. I doubt they'll drop much.

Chris,
In your opinion what does Elon's loss do to Liberty's playoff chances?

If anything, it makes the Liberty-Elon game a play-in game for the field of 16, as long as Liberty wins the next three to get to 10-1.

I just don't see any way Elon goes into App and wins. That'll put the Phoenix at 8-3 heading to Lynchburg.

The two biggest games this week that will have bearing on the Flames:

NAU at Montana -- A Griz win puts the Lumberjacks out of their misery. Montana has won 20 of the last 21 against the Jacks and NAU coach Jerome Souers has never beaten the Griz. He used to be Montana's D coordinator.

Northern Iowa at Western Illinois -- I don't think the loser of this game has much of a chance of an at-large. Western Illinois is definitely out if it loses.

Top 16 means nothing as far as playoffs go.

I thought there was a stipulation about being in the top 16 in all three polls for those who do not get a automatic bid.

A committee chooses the teams that get at large bids based on their own criteria. Since there's 16 slots, the top 16 is a good indicator but it really is just a ranking.

The GPI is more accurate, and you have to realize teams will make the playoffs that aren't in the top 16 and maybe not the top 25 by getting an auto bid.

I don't follow other conferences closely nor what conferences have an autobid, but is there a conference with an autobid who's best team won't be in the top 16?

More than likely, yes. Texas State will probably win the Southland and they are not currently in the top 25. Tennessee-Martin is leading the OVC and is ranked 22/23. Lafayette and South Carolina St. won't necessarily be in the top 16, and they should win their conferences.

MEAC. With OVC looking on the outside of 16, too, I think.

Elon will be the game. There is no question about that.

I hope if any of the players are reading this that they focus on ONE GAME AT A TIME. Elon is coming, but as irratic (doesn't look spelled right) as the Big South has been playing, we cannot look past any of the three teams before then. VMI and GW have had moments of notice. If we just keep winning the way we did Saturday, when we face Elon,we will have confidence, momentum, and the voters attention. If we can convice everyone that we are a force to be reconed with, and only having one blemish, the Elon game will get attention. I watched a little of Elon's Saturday game on playback today and even though they were blown out, they look pretty strong. We will need to hit them fast and hard. I saw their defeated attitudes once they were behind a few touchdowns.

In the mean time - GO LU. Beat Presbyterian.
