We actually tied Stetson today 0-0. I almost consider that to be a moral victory for the team and all the struggles that they have gone through and the tough year that they are having so far. That Karen Blocker is the real deal and will be a key for our future and she is only a freshman. So far this year she is getting a serious workout every game with all the shots that are being fired at her and she is holding her own at the goalie position. Now if the new coach can step up the recruiting a bit and can surround her with some talent we can turn this thing around in a few years.

WOAH WOAH WOAH!! Moral victory? Step it up in the recruiting? Turn this thing around? Let's be realistic. The new coach has inherited a team including 2 All-conference performers (Amy Oberlin being one who is high on the programs all-time points list I think), returned the assist leader in Mallory Neff, the team posted a winning record in the Spring (According to the website) and she has the number 1 ranked recruiting class in the Big South at her disposal. This team should be winning, not losing to VMI and a D2 school, both firsts in program history! I know we're supposed to be nice to first year coaches, but this is ridiculous!

im not ready to start bashing the new coach, but it does take some time to blend her style with the new players. In her defense two of their losses were to ranked teams like UVA and ODU. however, the losses to VMI and longwood are unacceptable. we are in an 0-2 hole in big southplay, but winning the tournamnet is all that's needed to go dancing. i certainly am concerned, but let's see how it all shakes out!

LU just lost 2-1 to Francis Marion 2-1 today. There second loss this year to a division 2 team. Things are really getting rediculous now.

Francis Marion is now a D1 school, but pretty new, maybe a 2nd or 3rd year D1 program I think. But yes, it is getting ridiculous. In fact, it is beyond ridiculous! Some crazy points here - going into the game, Francis Marion had a worse record than us... 0-10-1 going in!! We handed them their first win of the year! Second (and I guess third) crazy thing.... Coastal's winning goal came with 14seconds to go, Marion's winning goal came with 15seconds to go!! That isn't bad luck, that's just bad!

The Francis Marion Athletic Department offers 12 intercollegiate sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and tennis for men; and basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball for women. The Patriot golf and women's soccer programs are provisional members of NCAA Division I, while the remaining 10 sports compete in the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference.

Nice find, Roccofan...I had no idea a school could cherry pick what sports to go D1 in.

LU was division I in baseball several years before the entire athletic department stepped up.

As for this season, there is no sugarcoating the results. Hopefully this is just the growing pains of instituting a new system. Because this is setting up to be our worst ever.

Nope...I believe where there were years...in the early to mid-90's...where a 2 goal season was a good year.

If you are a D1 school, you have to be D1 in all sports. If you are a D2 or D3 school, you can have one men's sport and one women's sport at the D1 level (excluding basketball and football).

No you can't, at least not at D3. The only reason why a school like Johns Hopkins has a D1 lacrosse team is because they were grandfathered in. If a D3 school wants to offer an NCAA sport, it has to be D3 unless they were grandfathered in to D1 when the NCAA passed the rule forbiding such practices.
The vote on the amendment to Proposal 65 was passed at the NCAA Convention in Nashville, 296-107. Proposal 65 itself, which prevents any future schools from playing up and offering athletic scholarships, was passed 304-89.

Proposal 65, part of a wide-ranging Division III reform package, was advanced as a way of forcing all Division III schools to adhere to Division III principles across the board. The proposal was later amended to say those 12 programs could remain in Division I, but cannot offer athletic scholarships. The proposal was essentially a revocation of a waiver granted by the NCAA in 1982-83, which grandfathered these eight schools at the time.

Instead, delegates at the NCAA Convention voted 304-89 to pass Proposal 65-1, an amendment-to-an-amendment that protects the status quo at the eight affected institutions, but prevents other universities from adopting the same multi-division classification.

It seems we are reverting to what the program was before James Price took over. From loosers to champs and now back to loosers. Anybody knows the reason why Price left?

it "losers" haha...anyway why pricey is not the coach anymore is not the issue. he's gone...simplea s that. there are some internal problems with this team that will hopefully get worked out but losing to the likes of VMI, Longwood, and Francis Marion would make one think that the athletic dept could be is wondering if they made the wrong decision in letting pricey go. there is too much talent on this team to not have a win!

On paper it seems like the new coach has much higher credentials than Jim Price had with coaching experiences at Delaware, Creighton, and Clemson. I did expect us to struggle a little with last year being below par but nothing like this. This is very mind boggling to me to see us in this situation.

Revisiting the ifs, whys and hows of the coaching change is pointless at this juncture. I am just concerned about the girls getting back on track right now in a season that seems to be spiraling away.

That is not accurate and I believe is an irresponsible statement to post. He resigned and is now doing very well for himself as Technical Director of Coaching at SOCA, a premier soccer club in Charlottesville.

Let's talk about the more worrying concern of our first loss to Radford since 2000 (according to the Big South website)! Last year we beat these guys 4-1 with goals from Oberlin, Owen, and Tyson - all returners.

The girls have 3 huge conference games in a week - they must get at least two wins to realistically make it into the tournament.

These girls will be unstopable now that they got a solid win under them.

"Unstopable" ? 2 wins and a loss in last 3 is a reason for hope, but before we hold a parade lets see how they do Thursday against Gardner Webb. GW goals against is very respectable and the girls have yet to find a win on the road. This is a "MUST WIN" to keep hopes alive for a ticket to the tournament.

took a look at the standings this morning - if we beat GWU then we are in, but if we lose then we have to go to Winthrop and win AND rely on GWU losing! The girls were great against PC, if they take that to GWU then we'll be fine!

luflames15......I have not read anywhere that there are "haters" in the camp..(apology would be warranted) only subscribers that would want nothing more than to see this team have an 11-2-1 record rather than what it currently is. That being said.... it ain't over till its over. This team can finish strong and have a great run through the Tournament. The key will be to play solid soccer at both ends of the field for 90 minutes.
