This was the 1st LU game I've seen in my area in years! woo hoo for me! (it was on Direct TV) Play calling in the red zone lost this game as well as special teams. LU got manhandled by #17. Not by the entire L team, but by #17. Without him it wouldn't have been close. He should be at a much bigger program.

Really? You think you would have won by like 20 points if #17 Andy Romans wasnt in the game? He had a great game and is a great players, but he is still one man--its was a total team effort.

After watching the game on MASN I think that we have issues on the offensive line if we have 2 occasions we have 1st and goal from the 5 and can't score a point. You would think that the surge from the line would almost put us in eventually. That is hard for me to believe and is somewhat embarrasing. The special teams was pitiful but that happens sometimes.

I was a little worried about some of the teams that we have beaten earlier in the year such as Youngstown and Western Carolina have had serious off years with the results that I have seen in recent weeks so yes there are issues with our scheduling with the Big South teams coming up and the 2 division 2 teams. So maybe LU is a bit overrated with what I saw yesterday and with whom they have beaten so far. Lafayette is a good team, no doubt about it, but I don't think that our schedule adequately prepares us for that competition.

If we recover from this loss, and I think that we will, I think that there is a good chance of taking out Elon but can not afford another loss in between if we are even thinking about getting into postseason. I think that there is still hope.

I have to agree with Franks. As several have mentioned, coaching/play calling was an issue in the first half. What I saw was an entire D line beating our guys off the ball, not just Romans. Anybody in his spot would have blocked that punt, because he wasn't touched. We did have some really good production in the 2nd half, but in the red zone, Lafayettes D handled anything we gave it- although what we gave was pretty predictable. Our players didn't seem to respect or recognize the talent of Lafayette. Based on our predictions, we didn't either.

I really think our problem is our schedule. We're getting stronger, but we still don't play many teams that are playoff-caliber teams. Next season, when we don't have the D-2 schools on the schedule, we'll be prepared for some heavy competition, but we don't see it in Big South play, with the exception of Coastal and possibly Gardner-Webb. We prepared for our usual game, and we weren't ready for what showed up on Saturday.

I didn't plan to add anything more to this discusion, but...

The Lafayette TV people did not feel that the fake punt was rubbing it in. They felt it was a great decision to try not to give the ball back to a Liberty offense which can score in seconds. It was, of course, not probable that the Flames would put up two scores in the last minute, but why tempt fate - and Jennings, Crawford and number 9, whose name I have forgotten and apologize for.

Andy Romans (number 17 on your program and number 1 in our hearts) plays like that every time out. I advised you to watch for him in a pre-game post on this board. He's probably too small to play at the next level, and I fear for his well being when he no longer has people to run into.

I like your team and I like your chances the rest of the way. When this game was first announced I checked your schedule and predicted that you needed to win 2 out of the Youngstown State, Lafayette and Elon games, and run the table elsewhere to make the playoffs. You're still on schedule. Go get 'em, Flames.

For the record with the team we have, if you have the ability to run the score up to 100 - 0 do it....as long as you're another Division IAA team then by all means...it's our job to stop you and if we're a true Top 25 team then we will....we didnt on Sat, I truly feel if we were to ever play again it'll be a butt whooping but that's all speculation and you guys are the winners of the game that actually took place :D

i've have no problem with the fake punt. do what you gotta do, run the score up. we would have. when playoffs are on the line you want every win to look as big as possible, and like hmo said it's our job to stop it. our defense sucked, so they got what was coming, even though i understand ST played a bigger role in the loss then defense but our defense still should have played a lot better than they did

Well Frankly nothing indicates that you will "whoop our butts" when we play again. You have a good team, but you have rolled up wins on what turned out to be a rather weak schedule thus far. Plus we already played and we recieved the opposite of a butt whooping. Its not like you didnt try to put together a good schedule but Western Carolina and Y-Town are clearly down. Anyway it appears you will get a chance to play is again next year as you come to college hill and the mean streets of Easton Pa for a return trip.

Will the Easton Assassin be there? That would reason enough to show up for us Old Hags.

Thanks again to the Lafayette fans who have spent time with us this past week. You have helped make the experience much more entertaining. I look forward to our discussions next season as well.

Both teams should look different by then as we lose a slew of offensive weapons and LC's #17 leaves (a year too late for my taste ... That kid is a warrior).

They didn't give up a single point in the second half. Yes, they weren't that great in the first half, but you have to give them credit for playing a lot better in the second half.

Yeah i agree with this...its easily overlooked. The only TD scored in the second half was due to the punt block. Also its not like they were running the ball in the 2nd half because they lost the tailback we couldn't stop late in the 1st half.

One thing to look at with the defense in the first half is the fact they were on the field 2/3 of the time. They had something like 47 plays to the offense having around 25 or so. Part of that was not stopping them on 3rd down, part of it was us scoring quickly, and part of it was us not putting together that long 8-10 play drive.

Does Andy Romans have a little brother? If so LU better start recruiting him now! In response to the L fan, your defense is entirely different without him. In small college football, one guy does make a huge difference.

Larry Holmes can be seen frequently around Easton with his entourage. His is rather old by now and not that muscularbut he has the biggest head and hands I have ever seen-- no wonder he was a champ. He also runs a sports bar about a mile or two from campus.

yes, that was part of it...but the defense still did not do anything to help themselves out in the first half...second half...good job...first half...no excuses they just simply did not play well

A few interesting notes regarding the offense on Saturday from the game notes:

• Rashad Jennings rushing for 148 yards against Lafayette, marking his 18th career 100-yard game to set a new Big South record (previous record was 17 by Liberty’s Dre Barnes).
• Rashad Jennings finished the Lafayette game with his eighth rushing touchdown of the year, giving him 230 career points to set a new program record for scoring by non-kicking players (previous record holder was Lawrence Worthington with 228 career points).
• Brock Smith threw for a career-high 344 yards against Lafayette, surpassing his previous high of 315 yards against Charleston Southern in 2005.

By the way I forgot to mention something. That 32 yard run from Rashad in the 2nd half when he should have been tackled like 5 times was amazing. That needs to be posted on Youtube. I see it in the WSET highlights from a low angle. I'd love to see it from a top angle from the FTN guys.

Little Story here. I recently got some knee surgery recently from the Lafayette team doctor. I had to see him this morning for a follow-up and we talked about the game a bit.

He said "well I was on the sidelines and they may be a Christian school, but you wouldnt believe some of they were saying." :nono Anyway he said it was a great atmosphere and it was a great place to watch a game and the crowd certainly makes an impact on the visiting team.

Most of those guys that he would have been near on the sidelines are right here on this board. And in light of monthly arguments we have about what you can and can't do, I'd like to say, you just can't win.

I unfortunantly didnt get specifics. Since we were having this conversation as he was draining my knee I wasnt that chatty. This guy has been at every Lafayette games over the last 15 years and you can tell he was very impresssed with the game day atmosphere.

What Christians should be saying depends on what perspective you're coming from. Although I don't doubt it, you first gotta consider what he expects Christians to be saying.
