You guys had me biting my fingernails down to the quik for the whole game. Looks like Liberty is a great place to play a game. Best of luck the rest of the way for you guys...maybe we'll meet again in the playoffs? That would be great.

Thanks, Pard. You guys have a quality team. Hope you guys run the table, too!

Ok, first I have to get the sour grapes out of the way

I was standing right on the endzone line. That cowardly line judge that was right in line with me didn't make a call on what he saw. He made no call, and went and got the pile sorted out. He saw it just like I did (only I was 5 feet higher) and I thought he was in. But come on, make a call one way or the other when you've got the best view. Don't be such a girl.

Now, obviously our defense in the 1st half really let us down, but our play calling was terrible. 1st 2 plays we're in a pistol formation and it works incredibly well. I never saw it again. Anytime Rashad got on a roll, we'd run some goofy end around or something. 1st and inside the 10 in the 4th and we don't give him the ball once.

Lastly, our 3rd down music is so illegal it's not funny. They play it full blast right up until the snap. It even caused a delay of game. That's cheating.

First off, congrats to the Leopards and their fans on the victory.

I hit on my thoughts on the Flames' performance in the game thread so I'll try to move on.

Looking at this from perspective, if we are only going to lose one game all year then this is the one I'd prefer. It is a loss to a quality opponent out of conference. We can't drop one Big South game and even dream of the playoffs. And I'd much prefer our lone loss be midseason than in the season finale which comes just before Selection Sunday. A marquee victory over Elon will likely be a better calling card than one over the Leopards. Obviously we really could've used both. But that's out of our hands now.

If we run the table we will still be in solid shape for an at large bid. Much the way the NCAA uses CCU's appearance as an example of how the system allegedly works they'd love to use an 11-1 LU in similar fashion.

Is anyone else betting the farm that we end up 10-2 (with our 2nd loss being against Elon)? And if that's the case, we don't make the playoffs for losing the last game of the season, correct?

I'm with Sly, though: if we have to lose only one game, this is the one to lose. Our whole season now comes down to the Elon game.

I am betting on 11-1. This will NOT happen again. Relax, everyone....and get ready for our first round match-up at JMU when we shock the world!

Sly's right, if we had to pick a game to lose, this was it. A mid-October game against a team that has won their league championship three of the last four years. Their roster is filled with players that competed at very high levels in PA high school football playoffs. They know how to win big games.

We still control our own destiny with the Big South championship and Elon looming on the horizon.

P.S. I just wish we could grind it out sometimes to give our defense a breather.

On the bright side Brock's timing with the receivers on those slant plays is almost unstoppable. It's like a guaranteed 6 yards at least.

As for the 4th & 1 on 1 play, the television coverage was inconclusive although it sure looked to me as if the ball landed on the goalline.

Video Game Highlights

No. 14/15 Liberty overcame a first-half offensive barrage by Lafayette to give itself chances late in the game. However, the visiting Leopards withstood several second-half charges to take a 35-21 victory over Liberty, Saturday afternoon, at Williams Stadium.

The loss ends the nation’s longest FCS winning streak at 11 games, dropping the Flames to 6-1 on the season. Liberty, which was looking for its first-ever 7-0 start in program history, also saw its 11-game home winning streak snapped in front of 15,483 fans, the second-largest crowd in stadium history.

I was hoping someone would say that. That leaves me clinging to my "he was in" excuse. But seriously I was sitting in the front row, right on the line and obviously I don't have mental slowmo replay. But I really was sure he was in. And thought it was a skirt move for that ref right with me to just sit on his hands and wait for someone else to decide.

my first reaction was anger towards Brock for many passes thrown behind receivers...then I looked at how well Brock really did and the offense as a whole and I can only blame the defense as a whole in the 1st half was horrible...when you play that terrible as a unit its hard on the offense....

not to say the offense didn't have their share of screw ups...but that performance by the defense in the first half was simply unacceptable....

in my mind we can't lose another game if we want to make the playoffs

Your right. I was referring more to the first half roller coaster ride and should have been clearer. Its a double edged sword. Quick score is good for us but puts the defense right back out on the field where they get tired.

Can we make a rule, just for the sanity of many on here? If you post something, you at least have to add one positive. It can be five bad things, but mention a positive. Please.

It's funny, my main beef the whole game was the offensive play calling. I was sitting in my seat murmuring to myself obscene things. And 1st and Goal we don't give it to our stud RB one time. I was thinking, how could you not give it to him 4 times in a row? (a side note: I know it was still in the 3rd but that was 4 down territory. A FG still leaves you 2 TDs away.)
And then the same situation, they take my advice and he's stuffed 4 times*.

*except for the last time when he was in the endzone.

Just got home, horrible ride home. I had forgotten how bad it feels to lose. It really sucks.

Anyways, the offense is not to blame for losing, the defense is not to blame for losing, special teams is. Yes Lafayette scored 35 points, but the defense did not give up any points in the 2nd half as all they got was the blocked punt. The game completely turned into Lafayette's favor when Dom muffed that ball on the first punt. We never recovered from it. Then we could never overcome the blocked punt.

Did anybody else hear Lafayette's coaches slamming the windows when they had that punt blocked?

Can we just focus on winning the big south during the next 4 games and forget about the playoffs for now? That's what I want to do. Get a big south championship, and see where we are in 4 weeks.

It seems we really re-grouped in the 2nd half...and dominated them. A shame we could not punch it in twice and get a punt block. Three plays were the difference in the game.

Interesting. Now that we've got one in our pocket, I don't give a rip about winning the conference. I just want in the playoffs. Now having said that, obviously if we don't win the BS we won't get in the playoffs. So we still have to win it. But as a fan, it's playoffs or nothing.
