I don't get it.

I'm in the same boat with you. Apparently we only lost one scholly for this year meaning Minaya is using that one which we had available. Someone said we assessed a 1 scholly penalty upon ourselves last year, which means we only really lose one for this year. I've never seen something official on that, but that's what I'm assuming. That still means we will only have at most 2 schollys for next year and we already have one verbal.

I thought that was this year that we were voluntarily taking the penalty early. And then didn't because of Minaya.

I was under the impression that (provided we correct our deficiencies) any penalties we have would be for this year, not next, and we should have a full allottment in 09-10.

I believe that would be correct if noone decides to leave. In our current situation, it would be almost predictable that 1 or more of our guards will not get the PT they want and decide they need to move on. (Hopefully in good acacdemic standing!)

...LU got a verbal commitment Tuesday night from 6’6” forward Kenny Onyechi out of Texas, who had committed to Rice but pulled out when the Owls made a coaching change. LU coach Ritchie McKay is said to be making big inroads in Houston.
