That is huge! The Houston connection continues! This kid is getting attention from the big boys. Clearly Jesse must be saying the right things to his little brother. He is ranked 8th overall player in Houston for the Class of '10 in a city where generally 35 kids sign DI letters. Most Top 10 players in Houston sign with majors only.

ESPN wrote:ESPN.com's National Recruiting Director Paul Biancardi reports that 6-foot guard John Caleb Sanders has verbally committed to Liberty University's 2010 class on Wednesday. Sanders was starting to receive interest from Wichita State, Arizona State, Oklahoma and LSU.

Biancardi describes Sanders as a lights-out deep range shooter.

"Sanders is a kid who's strength is shooting the three point shot from anywhere on the floor," Biancardi said. "He spreads the defense out and makes you guard him. Opponents can't leave him open because he will burn them."

"Sanders can play some point if needed but his more of a two guard right now," Biancardi continued.

Sanders needs to add some weight to his sleight frame, according to Biancardi.

Biancardi says Sanders will fit nicely in to head coach Ritchie McKay's system at Liberty.

"Coach McKay loves to have as many 3-point threats on the floor at once," he said. "Because Sanders can hit three's in transition and in the half-court set, I expect he'll fight for playing time right away."

Its been the class of 2009 that have made the most moves with official visits to campuses, also getting in home visits and giving verbal commitments. But junior guard,John-Caleb Sanders (Home School) quietly made a pledge to a school out east. Sanders who is a flat out scorer, knew it would be just a matter of time when he would give his verbal commitment and seize all recruitment.

well... we still need a big man, but this is a good pick up for us I think, judging from the schools that had interest in him.

I'm not saying we shouldn't continue to look for quality size, but why do people keep harping on this when we signed 2 bigs this year and have a verbal from a 6'10" growing boy for next year already?

10 Guards
3 "Bigs" And no I would not include Carter "Twig" McMasters a big.

The point is, it doesnt seem there arent too many big dirty work players on our roster

And I would think having an inside game would help a little bit.

We have players listed as guards on our roster who may never see a minute of PT at that position. Smitty, Floyd, Weaver and Minaya are all about the same size as the guy who led the BSC in rebounding and was the best post scorer as well the last 2 years. I'm not going to go back and look at all the past teams to calculate it, but I wouldn't be surprised if this squad, on average, is the TALLEST in our history. I'm all for signing a wide body if he is a stud, but we don't need any more like Lamont Winters, Armon Jones or Rashad Robinson, and quite frankly that is what you are going to get at this level if you recruit for body type and not talent and charactor.

I just did the math for this years roster, and the average height for the entire squad is just a shade under 6'5. That is pretty good overall size for a mid-major program, especially when shooting has been such a priority in our recruiting.

BINGO! Finally someone gets it.

This is a very big deal for LU (and not just 'cause he lives near Sly :D ). Take all guards, as far as I'm concerned, as long as the ball goes in the basket. The lack of size nationally has forced coaches to play with 4- and 5-guard lineups to a point that it is now common. For a coach these days to put themselves into a box of needing a big body just to be successful - well, some former LU men's basketball coaches, if they were willing to admit it, could tell you how difficult that can be.

This kid is Legit... I like him... Good pick up

The thing that makes me the most happy about this though is that MARSHALL DIDNT GET HIM... Man I hate him.

Uh, this was a back-up back-up kid for Marshall if other recruits didn't work out. The kid didn't have any offers, mainly b/c of competition would be my guess.

He's a 2010 prospect Realist, Just a risining Junior with 2 more years of HS ball to play. A lot of kids who end up being big time recruits have no offers at that point, and some of the ones who do get offers when they're in daipers turn out to be much adoo about nothing.

This kid could very well be a Top 100 national player. That's not an exaggeration. WSU recruits Houston hard (check their roster) and they rarely get a Top 10 Houston player (usually ranked 20-30). I feel very confident that Ole Purple Face would gladly take an early verbal from this kid.

My son is in the HYCA little kids program and I'm going to try and catch some of John Caleb's games this season.

Greg Marshall? Didn't you once say that he passed on Stephen Curry by offering him a bench role at WU? LOL

From a recruiting standpoint, JC is the most highly regarded of the Sanders brothers. That would include mid-major standout Thomas Sanders. Ever heard of him?

Ok guys

I guess I should have expected nothing less, there is always a huge overstatement of the worth of recruits on here. This kid plays in a crappy league and is not on anyone's radar other than a back-up option. But here's to his legacy of Jeremy Monceaux and every other hyped up recruit that you guys play up to the next big thing. Sly, you are almost as bad as the acid tripping pair a sox

I don't remember us playing Bryan, but I do recall him scoring 0 and 5 points respectively when we played Winthrop. A combined 1-7 shooting.

pac-10, sec, and big 12 recruits could all most likely be at least solid contributors at the mid/low major level if not better in my opinion.
