If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

I thought we already had a thread on them, but I couldn’t find it. A poster on AGS said that the starting QB “has left the team for unspecified reasons” and All-American Savage and a defensive end Matelan are out for the rest of the season.

This game has suddenly become a game in which we could/should win more so than originally thought; however, them not having a good year doesn’t help our at-large possibilities.

The guy is off the two-deep for this week so I've gotta think this is pretty true. This makes them very one-dimensional. The other QB is more athletic but not as good of a quarterback.

Dont we need to sweep conference and win 2 OOC DI games to make it? I mean if we go 10-2 I would think were top 20, which would get us in automatically - I think.

I could be very wrong, but I dont think YSU having a bad year hurts us at all in terms of playoff chances.

I saw that on AGS and I've been scouring the YSU boards for any direct confirmation.

If any of you know anything about the city of Youngstown, you know ho hard that town actually is. Scary hard.

We have to be top 16, and I don't think 10-2 will get us top 16 this year with them not being as good as once thought.

We have to average being in the top 16 in a couple different polls.

Thats to clinch an At Large right? I dont see how at 10-2 we dont make it in regardless.

We were 9-2 in 1997.

Beat #15 App. St. & #19 Cal Poly. Lost to #21 Hofstra & #25 Hampton. We didn't even sniff the playoffs.

We were 9-2 but three of those wins were against DII teams. As far as the playoff selectors were concerned, we were 6-2.

Which ones where DII?

Glenville State, Virginia Union, Delaware State?

Was the MEAC around in 1997 because if so wouldnt that make Delaware State a DI win? Or was the MEAC first a DII conference and then stepped up to DI together

We would have went that year had it not been for the loss to Hofstra. They normally took an independent, and Hofstra got to go with that win. We only lost to Hampton in overtime at that game...I do think Deleware state was D-1 at the time...that was a road game and the band went along. I think one of the reasons we lost that Hofstra game was that Courtney Freeman got hurt - one of our best receivers...it seemed like 50 percent of our offense was a post pass from Ben Anderson to Freeman.

We finished that year ranked 19th. We sniffed the playoffs, but did not make it. But now there are a lot more FCS teams than there were in '97.

I played in '99 and it seemed like that season "took the wind out of the sails" for (some of) the coaching staff. It seemed like they gave it their best shot, came up short & felt like we would never make it.

Glenville, Virginia Union and Norfolk State. NSU didn't count as a D1 win until the following year, much like PC didn't count as a D1 win for us last year. If we had beaten Hofstra, that would have given us 7 D1 wins -- which has pretty much always been the main criteria by which the playoff committee selects at-large bids -- and we would likely have gotten in. Beating Hampton wouldn't have hurt either.

Youngstown - Youngstown State Head Football Coach Jon Heacock announced on Tuesday that junior quarterback Todd Rowan (Braceville, Ohio/LaBrae) has left the football team.

Rowan started the first two games of the season for the Penguins. In two contests this year, he had completed 14-of-23 passes for 84 yards and one interception.

Tribune Chronicle wrote:Rowan leaves YSU
Quarterback disappointed about demotion

By JOE SIMON Tribune Chronicle
POSTED: September 10, 2008

YOUNGSTOWN - Enough was enough for Youngstown State quarterback Todd Rowan.

Rowan informed the the Penguins he was leaving the program on Tuesday after he was told he'd no longer be the starting quarterback, according to his father, Greg Rowan.

Todd Rowan waited three years for his chance to become the starter for the Penguins, and after a slow start in his first two games - against No. 5 Ohio State and South Dakota State, ranked No. 13 in the Football Championship Subdivision - he was replaced by backup Brandon Summers. Greg Rowan said Todd had a meeting with YSU offensive coordinator Brian Wright over the weekend and he was informed he would not start the home opener against Central State on Saturday.

That's when Todd Rowan, who was the backup to former YSU quarterback Tom Zetts the past three years, chose not to accept a step back.
And obviously we are not the only team being overrun by injuries ...
On the other side, Heacock is dealing with a tumultuous start to the season. The Penguins (0-2) have been outscored 83-7 in their first two games and discovered Tuesday they also are losing three starting defensive linemen for an extended period of time, including all-conference senior tackle Mychal Savage, who's out for the season. So Heacock said he's critically analyzing every position, not just quarterback.

In their win over NDSU, YSU had 56 rushing attempts to 12 pass attempts. Over 300 yards rushing. Our run D will definitely get tested.
Coaching changes

It appears your intel was on the mark.
