so then if you just want them to be in school colors, the dresses can be navy blue, white or red correct?

I would prefer red because that's what the athletic department is pushing, but I'd be ok with anything that was a school color.

"Believe me, I had conversations with Dallas and those guys on many occasions telling them how I disagreed with them. I had it out with Bob Good last year over the white shirt/red tie promotion because after finally getting kids in red, they were changing it. It's something I have been very adamant about." SuperJon

So let me get this straight because I just reread this.....you had it out with Bob Good last year because they wanted the students to wear a white shirt and red tie to honor Jerry Falwell? The man who started this school....you couldnt keep it inside that you were upset about the students wearing red so you had to have it out with someone over that? I have tried real hard today to not get ticked off with this thread because it should just be taken down because it has gotten way out of control. I think you've gotten your point across but however I dont really think you are going to change anything because of your feelings. You've made your point now let it go.

this is pretty much old news...and back when SJ first said he was against it most people, including myself, disagreed with him...after the game he came on here and said he was wrong...

seriously man...its a thread on a internet message board..deep breathes.....

Yes we got into it for multiple reasons, none of which were as a disrespect to Dr. Falwell, over that promotion. Afterwards I admitted I was wrong and it worked better than I thought it would.

You have got to be kidding me. You are saying that school loyality is purely judged by the color of of your clothes you wear to a game? What would the AD rather see, empty stands midway thru the 3rd qtr or stands full of students dressed in what ever color till the end of the game.

Isaiah 11:3 - and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;

If God can look past the clothes then certainly the AD can.

Matthew 15:11
What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.' "

If you really had a problem with him couldn't have just done it privately? I know you feel like you are the number 1 cheerleader and that's great but I swear sometiimes you make a freaking mountian out of a molehill!!!! You don't need to remind me how far we have come... Until 3 weeks ago I have been around LU my whole life...so trust me I know how far we have come... I just think you made a way to big a deal out of this...

ok i think this topic is done. SJ got what he wanted because brent is asking them to wear red. people on here admitted they didn't go about protesting the color of the dresses in the best way. take that as an apology, thats probably the best you'll get.

my 2 cents, the girls were hot in sundresses. they did stand out and red would be better for sure, but thank you girls for at least coming to the game and supporting the team. And for representing LU well in the looks category

All I did was post something I didn't like. I never called them gay. I never called them yuppies. It never became a big deal until I started getting text messages, IM, phone calls, Facebook chat messages, and e-mails about it. It never became a big deal until people stopped my friends in the halls saying crap about me when they've never met me and when they were absolutely wrong in the stuff they were saying. I don't want to make this about me but those that know me and know all of the things that I have done to try to promote this school and this athletic program, completely free, realize why this is a big deal to me. Liberty athletics isn't my job. Liberty athletics are something that helped change my life and are something that are very important to me and I will do whatever I possibly can to make it the best it can possibly be. If that means calling out someone for doing something I disagree with then so be it. If my group that I started did something that people didn't like, I would expect them to call me on it. I wouldn't get my friends to gang up on them and attack them and say things that aren't true. I would refute the things that they said or explain the reasoning behind them.

I called them yuppies! And when half of them came in today I called them that again! In fact I think they are going to wear white shirts spelling it out next game....which I think would be "halarryous"

olldflame wrote:My first comment is that I saw the girls in dresses and wondered what was going on, but then later, from the Baptist side, I didn't think they made any significant difference in the "sea of red".

Personally, I don't have a problem with appropriate non-conformity in the LU student body, and in their support for the team. It takes all forms, and I agree with those who commend these kids for their attendance and enthusiastic participation. I went to Lynchburg Baptist College at a time when there was not much tolerence for individuality, and I think we have made great strides in this area.

My problem is with the way they chose to do it. First of all, khakis, polo shirts and sun dresses is not "dressing up, and is not really representative of "southern style". It is representative of only a tiny segment of frat boy/sororiety girl culture on a few campuses. Sort of a snooty "I'm better than you crowd". When I think of Khakis and polos I think of the rich real estate guy from Charleston who flips houses on one of those cable shows. What is more disturbing though is that on the campuses they are "copying" (and let's face it, that's what is happening here) the crowd that takes on this psuedo-southern-style affectation is generally the biggest bunch of boozers on campus, and whether our LU group is copying that or not, that is the association that is made. I commend the enthusiasm of this group, but IMHO it is misguided.
Best post on this thread, aside from SJ trying to make people understand what he actually was SAYING and not what they were hearing him say.

I never had an option as far as game-day dress was concerned -- the band was pretty specific on what we were allowed to wear ;) And my problem is less about the color (sorry, SJ, though I do understand your concern, and understand that you've got a bit of a stake in the whole student participation thing) than about the perception, and the seeming celebration of frat culture. There's a reason that LU doesn't have fraternities or sororities, and it's that perception. I know that it's not always true (I know people who were in frats who never drank at all), but the perception is there. And one thing I carry with me from my Intro to Marketing class lo those many many moons ago is that "perception is reality." No matter what the real facts are, people perceive the truth as it looks to them. If people see a bunch of people copying and celebrating the fraternity culture, they are going to assume a few things about them. Is that really what the group wants?

Just to understand what everyone is saying about how dressing up to games represents a southern fraternity style whiich implies partying and drinking which isnot something Liberty is trying to promote.. and this analogy may not even work here.. long night of studying but.. what about dressing up for church, does that represent that someone has been out partying all night.. again i may be way off here, so whatever. i still think its ridiculous for people to get upset for them wearing something other than school colors.. like i said PC's theme this year is paint it blue, and yes students are encouraged to wear blue, but girls here are not going to all wear blue dresses b/c saturdays here are like a fashion show most of the time and they dont want to get caught in the same dress as someone else. This subject has been very entertaining to say the least. but hey good luck on saturday and the rest of the season until you come to clinton
