man, our sids department vs what they used to be is like night and day. I feel like I'm getting spoiled. Bravo on keeping the Stephen references to a minimum.

edit: Where did that picture of him in the LU uniform come from?

that's funny. He apparently had to have a costume change halfway through, too.

My favorite Curry response:
Who is most likely to be late to a meeting because they are looking in the mirror?
That would most definitely be Jesse Sanders. We call him “the model”.
For those of you with Facebook, you have to see Sanders' soaring dunk profile pic.

Getting the extra body in the department helped. They only had three full timers when I first got here. Adding a fourth made a huge difference.

Nice group pic of our 7 freshmen (also another pic of our 4 returning players):

Oddly, 6'11' McMasters looks about as tall as Medic in this pic. :medic

I also noticed yesterday that the department has undergone yet another name change...they are no longer "Athletic Media Relations" but are now "Athletics Communications." I think that is certainly more reflective of what the department is all about and not just media relations.

Lynchburg, Va.

Today LibertyFlames.com continues its seven-part feature, “Magnificent Seven Preview.” The series brings you a short question-and-answer session with the men’s hoops version of the Magnificent Seven. This week we will continue with guard Brolin Floyd.

In January, Basketball Times, a publication covering collegiate basketball for over 25 years, ranked Liberty’s 2008 recruiting class at No. 48 in the nation.

The Basketball Times ranked its Top 50, and Liberty joined No. 26 Xavier, No. 31 Rhode Island, No. 36 Fresno State, No. 36 New Mexico, No. 36 St. Louis, No. 41 Dayton, No. 50 Hofstra and No. 50 Gonzaga as the only schools that are not a part of a BCS football power conference.

After the Basketball Times Top 50 list came out, Liberty added Jesse Sanders and Bill Weaver to the incoming class, which would have given the Flames a higher place in the Top 50. Sanders decommitted from a verbal agreement with Conference USA member Rice to attend Liberty, while Weaver did the same at Brown.

The honored recruiting class is now on campus and LibertyFlames.com is going to highlight each freshman in this new seven-part series.

Floyd hails from Ocala, Fla., and graduated from Shores Christian School. As a senior, the 6-6, 212- pound guard averaged 24.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals, earning offensive player of the year honors.

Floyd, a McDonald’s All-America nominee, was MVP of his AAU Florida Elite team, while also playing for Nike Team Florida during the summer of 2007. In the summer of 2006, Floyd was the MVP of the Running Rattlers AAU squad, which won the State Championship.

Floyd chose the Flames over Clemson, Florida State, Miami and Western Kentucky, among others.

Ritchie McKay’s Quote Upon Signing Brolin Floyd
“When you talk about finding a diamond in the rough, you can put a picture next to Brolin’s name,” stated McKay. “Dale Layer came across Brolin out of obscurity in talent-laden Central Florida. I can’t tell you how excited I am that Brolin will be in a Liberty Flames uniform. He has a great body, size, strength and athleticism and a desire to be great. Along with a few other freshmen, I anticipate Brolin to have a major immediate impact on our team and program.”

Sitting Down with Brolin Floyd

Why did you decide to attend Liberty?
I decided to come to Liberty because I really liked Coach McKay. He is a great coach and this is a Christian university.

What was it about Coach McKay that made you want to come and play for him?
Coach McKay is a very smart coach and I felt he would help me become a better player. He is one of the most honest individuals I have encountered.

What does it feel like to be a part of a Top 50 recruiting class?
It feels great to be a part of a top 50 recruiting class. It means that I am coming in with some great players and I feel it’s a good start to exciting things here.

You spent some time on campus this summer going to school and playing pickup games with most of the team. This is the first time you guys have all been together. How did you feel the team jelled?
I feel we jelled pretty well. Everyone on the team is great to be around. I find my teammates easy to talk to and our chemistry is starting to really grow.

How important is chemistry?
Chemistry is very important. When you are in game situations it really creates a strong trust level.

Thus far, how has the Liberty experience been for you?
The Liberty experience has been good. It is a big change from Florida to Virginia, but I have really enjoyed meeting different people from various places around the country. I have enjoyed my classes so far too.

What change have you really embraced since moving to Virginia?
I really don’t like the sun, so it’s good to be out of the Florida sun. There are a lot of trees here in Lynchburg and I like that. I like the shade.

In your short time in Lynchburg, have you found a favorite hangout yet?
One of my favorite hangouts so far in Lynchburg is my bed in my dorm, where I love taking naps whenever I get the chance. I do visit Buffalo Wild Wings a lot for their boneless wings.

Favorite Wings?
Honey barbeque

What game on the schedule are you the most excited for?
Clemson

What returner has really reached out to you?
Anthony Smith really reached out to help mentor me this summer. He is a great player and he helped me get better this summer.

Who is the one player on the team most likely to go on the show “So You Think You Can Dance?”
Anthony Smith

The Manger dance I saw last year when LU came down to play CSU was one of the highlights of the season for me. Classic stuff.

Most the 7 were shooting around in LaHaye at lunch time today. CM was draining 3's all around the arc, hitting at least two-thirds of his shots.

You have the penchant for knocking down the three-point basket. What type of affect, if any, does the movement of the three-point line back a food have on you?

I honestly could not shoot on the line to begin with. I have always been more comfortable five or six feet out anyway. The line change will change a lot of things inside. It’s going to allow for more room on the block, but just because it’s only a foot, it doesn’t matter to me, actually I kind of like it. I spent a week playing down in Costa Rica this summer, and the line didn’t make a difference for me then either.
I think that was directed at me. I'm always whining about that change.
