teejay wrote:I am so offended by the fact that this is even being discussed... These young men and women were excited about the game and would like to start a tradition that is known in the south. Allow these students to have a voice, independence, and stop with the judgemental arrogance. I would be so imbarassed to be associated with LU if this became a matter of concern and if it was banned from the games... It was great to see a somewhat normal atmosphere at LU for a college football game. There were tailgate parties all over campus and it was refreshing to see the spirit of the students come alive for a game! The student body as a whole came out to support the team and their school. The students were excited! Please don't squash this with criticism. I am glad that there is change happening at LU and that the students are having a great time!
Mrs. Eden,

First off, I would like to point out that at no point have I been judgmental. Because I started this thread, I'm getting lumped into the group of people calling these kids yuppies or other names. My problem, and the reason I started this thread, is because these students were promoting wearing something other than school colors. I don't care if they come to the game in polos, sun dresses, speedos, or bikinis, as long as they're school colors and hopefully red. That's where the issue comes from.

Now, granted, I could have chose a better thread title than what I did. That's my fault and I'll go in and change it if I can.

I also have a very large problem with Liberty students drinking before games. One of the reasons I came to this school was because of the different environment than at state colleges. If these students want to be in fraternities and sororities there are plenty of colleges that offer that. If they want to drink before games then there are plenty of colleges that offer that as well. Like I said earlier, I'm not naming names of who was drinking and all of that because I know the trouble these kids could get into if they were caught. Them drinking on campus and being intoxicated (notice I didn't say drunk, but they were not sober either) while in the stands is yet another way that they were being blatantly disrespectful to the school administration and the goals of not only the game day environment but of the school as well.

Lastly, texting me and calling me and IMing me isn't going to solve the issue. The root of the issue has been posted on here countless times. It is that this group is promoting wearing something other than red to the games.

I hope you guys have a safe trip up from Georgia this weekend. Your son is an extremely gifted football player and has a very bright future ahead of him in a Liberty uniform and I look forward to seeing him play over the next five years.

And they have the name of their group painted on them instead of the name of the school. *cough* attention whores *cough*

i think its funny that you said the LUnatics were "attention whores" b/c they painted their chests with their own name. Yet people can show up looking like a bag of skittles and they aren't "attention whores" at all.

oh and pretty sure LU is the name of our school.

My name is Brent Robertson- Founder of Liberty Football "Southern Style": (no, Lilly is not my blog name. just borrowing haha)

We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. It is unfortunate that a single fellow has been trying to start grief between between the student body by trying to abuse and hurt the reputation of students who are members of the Group, and who participated at this weeks blowout win against North Greenville! Congrats to the Flames Football program on a great start to the season!

It is saddening that name calling and verbal disputes have started solely based on what a group of students wanted to wear to a football game. As Christians, we should evaluate everything that has been said on this topic and think, "Would Jesus really be bashing others on the basis of their clothing?" Or, "Would Christ judge a group of students who decided not to wear red shirts to the game?" "Would, Jesus start a blog calling students he did not even know, 'dumb', based on outward appearance?" We all know the answer.

Yay, you played the Jesus card. Congratulations.

If you would read, you would see that I apologized for saying dumb and even changed the thread title. I guess that wasn't enough for you.

If you want to play the Jesus card, we can say would Jesus have drank alcohol when it was against the rules of the institution he was at to do so?

And i do appreciate the name of the thread change from "why do people have to be so dumb", to "why do people have to go against the grain." I forgive you.

If we're throwing around Bible verses, let's throw one out that actually makes sense to the conversation:

typical LU debate. starts out about the color of clothes ends up throwing Bible verses around. Next time I read this thread will be a Calvinist debate

for a school that emphasizes students dressing up for classes every single day its funn how they are wrong for wearing proper class attire to a game! students cant seem to do antything right here! if we want to jump onto the "liberty way" then clearly those boys painted up shirtless is so wrong in terms of liberty. You cant even be outside your apartment outside of east without a shirt! I mean god forbid someone see what they could easily go see at the local pool. So lets just jump onto every little thing that goes onto games. the fans are there (15000 plus!) lets celebrate in the way our program is goin. Lets penalize the parents and citizens on the home side fans wearing normal attire and moms for wearing dresses! Boys painting up is great! girls dressing up who cares and god forbid they miss the liberty red by a coupe of shades different! Girls you looked gorgeous and proved just how beautiful and elegant the female student body truly is! John youve had your time in college and im just so sure that you stayed true to every singe "liberty way" that was set forth in front of you.

Brother In Christ,
Brent Robertson
Brent,

I don't know you, nor do I probably know half the people in your group. However, I believe there are a few relevant issues with you, OR your group, OR some of your group.

1.) It's a fact that some of the group was drinking before the game. That's an obvious issue.

2.) The group chose to dress fraternity/sorority style. This style typically is associated with things that Liberty University stands against. In defense of the group, dressing this way might not have been such an issue had #1 not been true. This is an issue.

3.) The athletic department spends money, time, and a ton of effort in order to pound into the heads of every student that RED is what they want to see; what the coaches want to see; what the players want to see; what the Baptist side loves to see. After looking at the picture SJ posted, it appears as if the group does not want to be associated with the sea of red. For someone to post here that they work for the athletic department, but choose to wear random colors, is a blatant contradiction. At this time in LU Athletics, and maybe forever, deliberately not wearing school colors is an issue.

Although there are other minor issues, these three are most irrefutable.

I'll speak for at least a couple of us on this board: Don't drink before a Liberty football game and support the athletic department at least during this time of push by them for LU fans to wear red.

WOW, haha. SuperJon and others i have alot of respect for you, but for pleading with these people to only wear nice clothes in school colors only is absurd. Everyone at PC dresses up for football games(except one fraternity), just about everyoe girl has a sundress on, but its always a lily pattern or vineyard vines or whatever else(pink, green, blue, purple, multi color), guys wear seersucker, khaki pants, white, light blue or light yellow button down with ties or bowties. PC just happens to have a PC tie and PC Bow tie, that are maroon/blue/white stripes) but most guys opt for a Southern Proper/Vineyard Vine pattern type bow tie. No one down here gets their panties in a wad over them not being school color. I understand the whole "red" theme you have, and more students there attend the game then probably the whole number of people in attendance at PC games. But thats absolutely ridiculous for a certain number of posters to gripe about them not being school color. Anyway, as super jon and other posters who post on our board know i am a stickler for southern dressing all the time. especially at football games..
To appease you though i did wear PC blue pants(ralph lauren golf) and a white(brooks brothers) button down. and a deep red(Southern Proper) bow tie to the PC game saturday. this will normally be my attire to the games, except for homecoming ill be wearing a suit. But thats just how things have always been at PC so i guess its not new to us. just new to yall.
Disclaimer: I wasnt trying to state anything about how good i am by writing in the brand name, i'm just kind of a stickler for those as well.
PS. we drink lots before the game

Have away at me...

Students are allowed to be shirtless on campus if they are in a pool or their chests are painted at a game.

First off, I'm still in college. Way to prove yourself to be clueless. And yes, I've broken rules before. However I never blatantly broke them on campus in a way that effected other people.

Does PC have a marketing campaign to wear blue to games? Have they spent money on meetings and plans and everything to get the predominant color in the stands blue? Have they put up banners and sign promoting wearing blue?

Uh, I beg to differ about every top notch program having it. If you showed up at most Big Ten, Big XII or SEC schools dressed like that you would be a laughingstock. Just because a few schools have brought back the concept doesn't mean it is typical across major programs.

If you could just not post anymore, that would be great. I stopped myself from replying to you the first time, but in a whopping two posts you've taken everything said in this thread to the furthest limit. Not only have you avoided a MAJOR confrontation, but you've taken the other to a ridiculous extreme.

Wow JP, as alumni it makes me proud to read statements as stupid as yours and know you're enrolled at the same school from which I graduated. I'm glad you're putting that college education to use.

so, speaking from a football player standpoint jp, would you say that you prefer the fans who wear red to not show up? you'd rather play in front of a group of about 200 who don't wear red? for some reason i feel like the coach and athletic staff would disagree with this viewpoint, but then again i'm not a football player. I do however have enough sense to know the difference in a blog and a message board

JP, I respect your opinion. However, keep in mind the push our athletic department has made for the support base to wear red to the games. I hope you'll take into consideration this push as the majority of this board expresses opinions different from yours. You being a player for the football team, it's definitely surprising to hear you go against what the athletic department is working towards.

your right only 200 fans would show up if they werent told to wear red. yur right they only go to the games to show off their new red shirts... they go for the spirit and to cheer on their favorite college football team! red or sundress as long as they are cheerin their heads off. and those sundress girls proved their loyalty cause as i can recall they were the last ones in the stands and i know for a fact they were amongst the most loyal fans. the red is a cool look but we know we have fans and we take all the fans we can get no matter what they wear! Why would i not want all the extra bodies we can get into our home games
