I really dont care I'm more worried about them being there...and if something stupid like this is what motivates a few of the yuppies to come rather then stay at home and polish their golf clubs then good wear what you want....but I think they could have just simply worn the khakis with a white shirt and red tie and made everyone happy

oh yeah...i am glad they are there...it just be nice if they went along with what the athletic department is going for...but hey, i am sure they are just as happy to have them there....

its a small thing, nothing to get worked up about...but it still is pretty stupid...

yuppies is a nice way of putting it...i would've taken it in another direction...but we'll stick with yuppies

Yeah I had the other word typed out first....then backspaced it

Cool hand Luke just posted on their to "Stay home if you dont wear red!" LoL while funny I really really disagree...they just need to create a group name (I propose Yuppies or Southern Comfort) and start attending all the games and paint their name on their chests and then they can have e-fights with the LUatics on facebook

I don't agree with wear red or stay home. I'd just rather you wear red. I'm glad they're there, but I don't like them not wearing school colors.

It's a far cry from a few years ago. I'm glad we're able to even have this debate.

I am so offended by the fact that this is even being discussed... These young men and women were excited about the game and would like to start a tradition that is known in the south. Allow these students to have a voice, independence, and stop with the judgemental arrogance. I would be so imbarassed to be associated with LU if this became a matter of concern and if it was banned from the games... It was great to see a somewhat normal atmosphere at LU for a college football game. There were tailgate parties all over campus and it was refreshing to see the spirit of the students come alive for a game! The student body as a whole came out to support the team and their school. The students were excited! Please don't squash this with criticism. I am glad that there is change happening at LU and that the students are having a great time!

Hey, as long as people are at games and into the action, I wouldn't think it's a big deal. I care about noise level over color, but that's just me.

Take a look at the video and pics of the students side from this past week, Kilts. Over here in Texas if you show up at a game in Austin in anything other than Burnt Orange or Maroon in College Station the penetrating eyes from everyone else will be reason enough to buy something from the souvenir stand just to fit in. It is peer pressure at its greatest.

I think it is great these kids come to the game but I really think the students should wear red or at least not try to get many people to go against what the athletic department has taken so much time money and effort to change. The culture is unbelievably better around there but it doesnt help when these things come up. When you watch almost every game in every major league the overwheming majority wears the school colors. That is just the way it is supposed to be and it really does translate into a home field advantage.

Someone from Pittsburgh (no clue who) texted me earlier and said that my FlameFans posts were uncalled for and to grow up. I have no clue who it was. So, if you're reading this, thanks for the text. I appreciate it.

These posts are absolutely absurd. I am one of the fans who dressed up "southern style" for the game on Saturday. Calling it being "desrespectful" to the university and athletic department is quite possibly one of the dumbest things you could have said. I have worked for Liberty's athletic department and have all the respect in the world for Jeff Barber and his staff. Jeff Barber is who saved Liberty's athletic programs and he always carries himself with the highest sense of "southern class". The group wasn't dressing up to go against the grain in anyway. Look at school's like Alabama, South Carolina, Auburn and even closer to home, Virginia, VTech and ELON (Who is in the Big South). Their students carry on the southern football tradition of looking their best for the games. I don't believe that not wearing red made our group any less school-spirited than the other students at the game. If anything our group might as well have been considered the biggest fans our boys have. We are all very close friends with all of the guys on the team and most of the coaching staff. When 3/4 of the student section got up and left the game at half-time who was still there supporting the flames?... Us. Just because I happened to wear a pink sundress doesn't make me any less of a Flames fan. There were posts saying that our group obviously had too much time on our hands to plan something like Saturday, but it's quite clear that ya'll are the ones who have too much time on your hands, talking about what a group of 20 students wore on a Saturday afternoon.

And by the way... I didn't see any posts last season when Dallas White, Ryan Patrie, Jon Hart and their friends used to come dressed up to the games.

Any more comments???

Ok, first off, Elon is in the Southern Conference.

Believe me, I had conversations with Dallas and those guys on many occasions telling them how I disagreed with them. I had it out with Bob Good last year over the white shirt/red tie promotion because after finally getting kids in red, they were changing it. It's something I have been very adamant about.

I never once said you guys didn't have school spirit. I never once questioned that.

I know you have worked for the athletic department but I guarantee you if asked anyone in the athletic department if they would rather you wear red or wear other colors to the game they would say they preferred you in red. They would thank you for coming, thank you for being excited, but they would ask that you wore red to the games. By not doing that, and in essence promoting something different than what they have spent a ton of money on, you're being disrespectful.

First off, welcome to the board. I hope this thread isn't the only one in which you choose to participate.

I won't speak on behalf of the LUnatics because they can more than hold their own. But a few points of clarification based on your post. Elon hasn't been in the Big South for a number of years. But they are comparable program to ours in many regards.

As Dallas White and the Society of Windsor guys, there has actually been quite a bit of discussion the past few years between the groups on here. In fact, I don't think I am really outing him by Dallas goes by dwhite on here. But Dallas and the guys dressed up in school colors. I think that is the crux of the argument in this thread.

Personally, I was glad to see that "tradition" die down here in Texas a decade or so ago. Having a home crowd in matching colors provides an intimidating atmosphere for the opposition. The Red Sea this past Saturday made a bihg impact on television viewers as well.

I guarentee if I were to ask someone in the athletic department, the least of their worries would be what I wore to the football game on Saturday night.

You guys are so worried about a group of 20 students (out of thousands in the stands) who decided to have a good time with the home-opener. Don't you feel like you're wasting your time?

From Flames Club e-mails:
Be early, be in red, and be loud and help extend the home winning streak to nine games before what could be the largest season opening crowd in Flames history!
Another thing showing they care what you wear:
Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife, Becki, stand with family and with staff of Liberty as the Red Hot campaign kicks off today.

The new Red Hot spirit initiative, supported by the school’s Alumni Association, will include Red Hot-themed T-shirts and gear for fans at Flames sporting events. In addition to Red Hot flags decorating university grounds, LU Flames logos will be painted on campus roads.

To answer your question: no. Anything I can do to promote Liberty athletics and promote the goals that this school has and this athletic department has is not wasting my time.

I just browsed the "Southern Style" facebook group you posted in the opening post of this thread, and I noticed Becki Falwell was a member of that group. For some reason, I doubt the chancellor has much of an issue with them.

To quote Rodney King (again), "Can't we all just get along?"

A nice compromise would be red polos for the guys and red sun dresses for the ladies.

The other thing that I don't appreciate is bringing the "frat lifestyle" of drinking before the game into the Liberty stands either, especially from people who are current students. One of the things that makes the Liberty football environment special is not having to smell alcohol on the breaths of the students during the game. If I wanted that, I would've stayed at Coastal. I'm not naming names or pointing fingers because I don't want anyone getting in any type of trouble, but if you feel like you have to defend yourself from this statement then yes, I was talking about you.
