With FRs comment on the band I actually was curious what everybody else thought of the show (particularly folks on the baptist side that got to watch it). North Greenville brought their marching band up and they actually performed the first little part of halftime and then our guys and gals went on

BJ, my two favorite parts of the band was not the music but their body language:

1. when the flag girls were saluting during the National Anthem
2. when the band got in formation of the Batman emblem

But the music was good, too.

Question: Why does the band play the Fox NFL Sunday theme song before the games? Are we on fox?

so Jonathan was like yeah we won a football game.. and how about the band and then praised it like it was the greatest thing on earth. i'm not trying to take away from the band because they did perform very well and looked good, but I just thought it was funny that he barely mentioned the game and all he could talk about was the band

Well three HUGE announcements at band practice yesterday:

1) The Liberty University Marching Band for the first time this century is getting brand new uniforms. Samples and bids are being taken right now and when the uniform supplier is chosen, they will come and measure each and every member of the band (I think including graduating members) and there will be 250 brand spanking new uniforms ordered for 2009.

2. Suggestions and designs are being taken for a new semi truck for the band (the current truck is I think a 24 and it is maxed out beyond all reason). No timetable has been announced for that but Im guessing it could be ready for 2009 as well.

3. The Liberty University Wind Ensemble will be performing their annual spring concert in the Elmer Towns Alumni Ministry Training Center. Some minor changes will be made to accomodate that sort of an event (mostly acoustic with a couple minor aesthetic changes)

There is soem other big news that Dr Kerr could not divulge but sounds like there are some good things on the horizon

lol...no. I was so excited that I typed it out in a hurry.I probably should take a few deep breaths before I post. Also, there are soem things that still need to be finalized that Dr Kerr couldnt talk about at practice yesterday. I mean if thngs arent finalized you dont want to go blabbing it everywhere (think of that commercial with the guy wearing the merger t-shirt)

Well we are down to two companies for supplying the new band uniforms and Im guessing we'll have a decision here after thanksgiving and then they will send a representative to measure all the band members and the design should be finalized over Christmas and the order put in with the new uniforms arriving summer of 2009. Oh and according to Dr Kerr we have 120 of 184 members coming back for 2009 which should lead to the band being over 200 members for the first time ever.

Well folks I talked to some inside sources with the band and the show for next year is a jazz themed show.

Edit:

Here is the 2009 show

Title: "Red,Hot and Blues"

Featuring:

Caravan
Feelin Good by Michael Buble
La Suerte De Los Tantos
Sing Sang Sung
Prelude Fugue and Riffs (that will probably be a percussion feature)

Interesting. Not only is my daughter looking to do lax, but she will be on band. She has done jazz band all through HS. Any info you have that I could pass on would be good. She'll be in the pits I guess. She's never done marching band, but she is hoping she'll have a good time.

You're daughter is gonna have a blast. the "pit" is an amazing group of guys and girls. I worked closely with them as one of the band managers last year. I think she will make friends very quickly. I know of a couple girls who actually played lax themselves before they came here.

I'll let her know. She got real good recommendation from her jazz teacher, and was corresponding with Dr. Super a lot. She auditioned with him and Dr. Kerr. So I guess my question is whi is in charge of the band. Dr. Kerr or Dr Super?

She liked both when she met them and seemed to get along well with the folks hanging around when the auditions happened at CFAW. Anything she needs to know?

One question I have, is with her room assignment they say checking is something like Aug9th, but she's supposed to be there Aug 2nd. Do they let them into the dorms early, or ar we supposed to stay with her and stay out of a hotel for the first week?
