Parking Controversy Continues

For them it's a question of fairness. Some say people at Thomas Road Baptist Church should not be parking at Toys-R-Us across the street. Especially since Liberty University didn't let people going to the Obama event in Lynchburg park at The Plaza. Some residents say LU and Thomas Road aren't being good neighbors. Penny Millson-Martula, Says TRBC Being Unfair - "You expect more of a religious institution, you expect more golden rule." So they wanted to tell people not to park at Toys-R-Us, just like LU police stopped people from parking at The Plaza. Millson-Martula - "This is private property, you can't park here, this is what you did, it's wrong isn't it."

this honestly makes less sense to me then the monogram "controversy"...the monogram is kind of ugly...so i can see not exactly liking that...not that I am justify some of the anger that has come from that...but LU followed the law...and you know if they did not do so, there would be someone out there that would quickly expose it and try to ruin the non-profit status....

I can't speak for Lynchburg specifically but I can't imagine that 8AM-noon on Sunday is exactly the prime toy-selling period.

I don't think it's Toys R Us that's complained. It's just TRBC/LU haters who are trying to make something out of the Plaza/Obama situation. And, I doubt the IRS would have a problem with church members parking at a toy store, so it's really not even relevant.

Anyways, I saw about 5 minutes of TRBC on tv Sunday, and it was Jonathan responding to the criticism, and he basically said that they were right and told the flock not to park there anymore. And he said he was unaware of the problem and that ToysRUs has never complained about it.

Local group leader offers to foot Obama bill

Obama organizers may get to see their recent Lynchburg bill paid without having to tap their campaign war chest.

On Friday, Soulforce co-founder Mel White said he and partner Gary Nixon would like to pick up the tab for the presidential candidate’s visit.

The city has billed the Obama camp $876 for a public shuttle service extended to spectators following the deterioration of an earlier parking plan organized by the campaign itself.
