Obama's convention speech will be heralded as "the greatest speech of our generation" by the media.
Book it.
why just generation, i'm sure it will be of all time!
BUT... Obama had a few chances at that already on the campaign trail (the major speech on race -- the one where he threw his grandmother under the bus, and the major speech in Germany)... and both of those were quietly heralded as great speeches... and then quickly forgotten because they were anything but.
Mercifully, the Obama speech comes on a Thursday night. You'll hear all about it on Friday, and Saturday and Sunday are part of a three-day weekend, so no one really cares. Monday's a little fish it's a holiday, and Bush is speaking at the GOP convention, so expect to hear buzz about that. McCain may make his Veep pick then, too, or wait until Tuesday. That'll have the politicos talking, and that nominee will speak Wednesday. All that leads up to Thursday night, when John McCain comes to the podium and addresses...
...absolutely no one, because America will be watching the opening night of the NFL season.
Still -- the point I'm making is that the media is going to be really, really busy right afer Obama speaks -- so don't be surprised if Obama's statement is quietly shuffled under the rug.
