All of the freshmen were there today. Chapman and Robertson were the most impressive newcomers along with Mike Larrson.

In regards to Hayes and Broggin, the only way to explain it is that they're maturing as players and it's obvious they have been in our weight program. They're learning the game more and starting to become impressive football players.

If it seems like I'm being vague it's because I am. I want to say enough to let you know what was going on but don't want to say things that could get me in trouble. I want to help build the excitement for the program and the season but don't want to get my foot in my mouth and say something I shouldn't. I'm just giving sweeping generalizations that anyone observing practice could see.

One tip though: if you go to practice, print out a roster and take it with you. It takes some time to get used to the players in new numbers and to learn who the newcomers are. I was asking all day who this guy was and who that guy was.

Totally understand and can't wait to come out to a practice if I can get out of work. Great observations though. I hope Jonathan Crawford is OK!

Camp Begins with Season's First Practice

July 31, 2008
Lynchburg, Va.

The Southeastern portion of the United States might have wanted Liberty’s training camp to open sooner, as for the first time in several weeks, the Lynchburg area saw rain drops fall from the sky early Thursday afternoon.

But the intermittent rain showers weren’t enough to dampen Liberty’s spirits, as the Flames began defense of their 2007 Big South football championship with their first practice during August training camp.

I hear and read the same. I really curious how that D line is going to shake out now more than ever. I would hate to be coach dealing with that decision!

Can someone post a list of number changes and maybe numbers for newbees?

We shouldn't have to worry about them getting tired. I think we have plenty of great subs this year, no matter who he ends up starting.
I think both of our lines are going to be good this year based on things i've heard and seen
