Oh no you didn't, RTF.

I'd be happy to discuss your Southern revisionist history in regards to one of the greatest men to walk on American soil. But let's stay on the topic of Obama in this thread.

For the most part we have done a decent job of staying civil. And our new friend was very frank in her positions and questions regarding her candidate. So thanks to her for participating.

Frankly divergent viewpoints make this board much more enjoyable whether it be in politics or our friends from CCU, VMI, PC or other schools.

But I need to find my own way, and those blogs and Facebook entries are who I am right now. I am sorry if it offends you. Just don't visit them if they do. Christian people have ridiculed me enough, and it's not helping me get back into church and the Word of God any faster. So instead of poking fun at me, please be kind instead.
In all honesty, and I mean this completely serious, I hope you get this figured out sooner rather than later. You're right in that too often times the people at church can judge to the point of you not even knowing what a Christian is anymore. I just hope that you're still looking for it, and you're not just content on being not "that great of a Christian." I really and truly mean that. Just keep looking and eventually you'll find it. I hope it's soon though. You're at the point where a lot of people tend to question things. Keep looking for the answers and keep an open mind. Yes, I know this post isn't what people expect out of me, but this is Jonathan speaking moreso than SuperJon.

So much for "civil" political discourse.

I realize I'm a little late to this discussion and that this is more of a debate than anything else. However, I firmly believe (call me crazy if you want) that McCain will wipe the floor with Obama when the election rolls around. I think there are people who don't completely agree with McCain that would rather vote for him than for Obama for many more reasons. McCain may not be our best choice, but he's a heck of a lot better than Obama, and I think he'll win easily.

I probably won't be back, sorry.
Rats...I just found this thread. I hope you will stay and contribute because I did have a question for you.

I see that you voted for Constitution Party candidate Michael Peroutka in 2004. I have followed (and even contributed) to the Constitution Party in the past and even voted for Howard Phillips for president in 2000. I am curious how you came to support a constitution party candidate given your positions on the issues?

I Support Barack Obama: My Story
By: Michelle K. Miller
July 26, 2008

Healthcare is another hot issue that I used when choosing who to support. As someone who doesn’t have healthcare because it is unaffordable, I support Obama’s plan to make healthcare easily accessible (without discrimination for pre-existing illnesses,) more affordable, and simple. I especially love that he is mandating that there be mandatory coverage of children, where they can be covered on their parents’ insurance until the age of 25. I think that’s reasonable, as 25 is a good age, because most students will be done with college, and can afford healthcare on their own then.
I too, am late to the party - but had to weigh in.

Mrs. Miller: As a healthcare provider (pre-hospital) the above is one of those statements that makes me absolutely crazy.

Let me explain this to you: YOU HAVE HEALTHCARE. WE ALL HAVE HEALTHCARE. EVERY EMERGENCY DEPT in AMERICA will treat you REGARDLESS OF YOUR ABILITY TO PAY. IT IS A FEDERAL LAW.

What I believe you mean is "I don't have health insurance" . BIG DIFFERENCE. Anyone can call 911 (and they do) and be treated and/or transported to an ED. We don't demand payment up front, and if you have no money, we'll likely write it off.
ED's treat 1000's of people every DAY who have NO insurance.

YOU HAVE HEALTHCARE.

Re: coverage of children. Most states have programs that cover children- the extent to which the cost of the INSURANCE is subsidized depends on how much the parents make. If you are a low or no income family- the INSURANCE is free. If you are a moderate to higher income family- you can still get subsidized INSURANCE from your State, you may just pay a bit more.

CHILDREN HAVE ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE NOW.

Finally- you can't mandate that a 25 year old be covered as a child- they are recognized as an adult, and- by law- are responsible for their own actions/care. This is my major problem with liberals and socialists in general- always looking for someone ELSE (usually ME) to take care of them. I have 3 kids already, thanks.

Thank you for coming back and presenting your side of things, though. I do respect that.

Laziness means no job. No job means no healthcare benefits. No healthcare benefits means someone else should pay the bills.

Yup... it's one thing to take shots at his stands on issues and his inexperience and his ego... it's another to be an ignorant redneck and put a towel on his head and laugh at the fact that he looks like an "A-rab".

if you want to think i don't have a sense of humor, so be it...doesn't bother me at all...

plus weren't you the one who wanted to start a civil political discussion?? hmmmm

This is what we call an "over-reaction". It's political humor, and there's nothing out-of-bounds about it. Lighten up.
