with all due respect: BAD IDEA.

you're responsible for that thing- and if your car gets stolen or at least burglarized, you're screwed.

you have the permit- I'd recommend you keep it on you.

as for safes- I'd go with the 5 button electronic lock type. There are many issues with fingerprint scanners, and when in an immediate need to get at the weapon, I'd rather have something simple.

as for the longgun/shotguns- I'd also recommend a gun safe- for security when you're NOT home. Just NEVER a good idea to have weapons out or left in a car when you can't visually observe them.

my .02 on the issue.

Is that .02 in Euros? It'd be worth more. I kid.

That's good advice especially on the safe. Unless of course you're trying to cut out the competition in shooting the bad guys. Again, I kid.

Have a safe and several hand/long guns. Also have a 12 ga. home defense shotgun under the bed for any possible intruders or boyfriends.

HMO, is your shotgun a pistol grip?
I have a pistol grip 18" for home defense, it looks pretty sick and is really easy to operate

It came with a pistol grip...but I am hesitant to put it on b/c I heard they hurt like crap when shooting...and I plan to take mine out ever now and then to shoot....that's a lot of power for a pistol grip...never really experienced something like that...maybe I could deal but I dunno...

I hear you about the gun....

Funny story...Billy Graham's grandson (Roy) was up here and school and he was always over at our house...one day my dad took the gun from his car and a few weeks later had a friend call Roy up telling him he was going to be brought in for questioning b/c a gun that was used in a murder has been traced back to him...lol...he cried...Franklin everyone got call's from Roy that day thinking he was going to go to trial

yeah...maybe it's not a great idea to keep in my car...

My car was stolen a few weeks ago with my house keys inside. I decided it was time to load up the gun I bought for home defense back in April. My wife was a little bit leery of it and I'm planning to take her out to a friends farm and do a bit of shooting with it. In regards to the kids, I was in 4-H in elementary school (rural area) and everyone took gun safety class (we were all in 4-H). Most kids had already been taught how to handle a firearm safely, but no parents pitched a fit or opted out. Needless to say, I don't ever recall a child discharging a firearm accidentally or being harmed by an accidental shot. My kids will be getting the same lessons.

I figured now that i have my lap top back and can actually post i can provide some insight on this whole guns thing.

I live in a suburb of Atlanta in the city of Kennesaw. Here there is an old law that dates back to the Civill war that has never been done away with and i believe is still being enforced to this day by the City police. It is illegal NOT to have a firearm in your home if you are a home owner. If the police have a warrent to search your house and ask you to produce your firearm and you can't the city of Kennesaw will fine you. this is a common known thing in the city since we are the only city that i know of in the U.S. that has such a law. Crime's here that involve Guns are almost 0. say i'm a criminal and i wanna go rob someone in kennesaw... well i know there is probably a gun in the home. i might think twice about takeing my chances and going somewhere where its less likely that the owner of the house i'm trying to rob isn't packing heat.
i say all that to say this.
I know its stupid and cliche' but Guns don't kill people. people kill people. people who pull the trigger are the thing we need to control. I was just watching today on TV where a two guys with loaded 9mm robbed a bar in New orleans. there was an ex marine there with a concealed firearm sitting in the back of the bar in a booth. he popped out shot the robber and probably saved at least several of the lives in that bar. Guns are a means to keep people from doing stupid things. if you want Gun control to the point where its almost impossible to get one then you might as well have ban on all leathal weapons including steak knives and and bow and arrow's.

our founding fathers gave us the right to bear arms for a reason. I think there should be good tracking of each fire arm sold sure. i think its very good that we have criminal background checks to make sure psycotic weirdo's don't get a hold of a firearm and go on a killing spree but to sit there and say we shouldn't allow citizens to carry weapons on their person whenever its at least remotely appropriate is unconstitutional. like say driving to work in their car or walking down town for instance especilly in atlanta near Turner Field. Again let me re hash this i'm not for just handing out guns left and right. but we have the right to bear arms for a reason. This country has never been invaded by a forgien country militarily and probably won't be all because not only do we have the finest military but we have citizens who pack heat and can do it because our government says we can.

ok i'm off my soap box now.

all i'll say is this: if you take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens, the only ones left with guns will be people issued guns by the government (police, military, FBI, etc.) and criminals. You think the police and whatnot are going to be able to respond to a 911 call long enough to prevent one criminal with a gun from shooting up a school?

HMO: pistol grips on a 12 ga = BAD IDEA

you'll have little to no ability to control the shot- not to mention it's impractical on the range.

And people will assume you're idiot. 8)

I assume you buzzkills will then next say that flipping your pistol on your finger 2 times forward then 2 times backwards before holstering is a bad idea?

Wyatt Earp carried a single-action revolver. Unless he pulled back the hammer, he could twirl that sucker all day long and nothing would happen -- probably.

As for BJ, I understand that his crutch gets very little single action. No word on whether or not he twirls it.

if its for close range home defense, you aren't aiming, you are pointing so i don't see how pistol grips would adversely effect that at all. and if it is for close range, you don't need to take it to the range except to just learn to operate it, because again you just point it.

i am not against people carrying guns...if they want to go through the steps to get one, more power to them....but in Lynchburg I have never once felt the need to carry anything to protect myself...to me its just guys trying to seem tough....

go stay at white rock for a few days then I think you'll rethink your position, especially if the cops have to roll in (which there would be a good chance of that occurring)...

but am i staying there for a few days?? no...

but even if you did want to use that as an example...if you don't bother people around here they don't bother you for the most part....of course there are exceptions...

like i said if you want to carry a gun around then more power to ya...i could care less, its your right...i just don't see the need here in this town...even at "scary" white rock.....

Is there anywhere in america that you NEED to be strapping? Possibly. But it's such an exception that I don't think that's anybody's reason for carrying a gun.

sorry bro, but this position proves you need to leave lynchburg more.....i know your from the north and you should know better. A lot of major cities in the US could give you good reason for packing.....
