Let us help out Chris.

Are you interested in photography work to pay the bills?

If you skim through this forum over the past year or so you will find a ton of resources about where & how to live in Lynchburg.

I have always served bi-vocationally, so photography has helped to pay the bills and provides a creative outlet that is refreshing. I would be more interested in finding a fulltime staff position and keeping photography as a hobby.

I searched the archives for relocation info and came up dry. I will narrow the search down to housing, church positions, etc.

My son is gifted athletically and I would love to see him playing at LU! I am already grooming him (Freshman in HS)!

If your son is gifted athletically, there is no better school than Heritage HS. Top notch facilities and support.

Or LCA:) If college sports don't work out - you get a free ride to LU anyway.

if this guy gets a job at LU, then free tuition from graduating from LCA wont matter, plus then his kid could get a masters degree for free too, i think.

i don't know about facilities, but as far as athletic success goes, VES and Holy Cross are good options too, depending on the sport.

Holy Cross is pretty much in the crapper when it comes to sports. at least as of last year. there was a lot of staff turnover in their athletic department.

I am also moving to Lburg in early August. If someone could dig up those relocation threads for us that would be awesome.

Let me do some digging and I'll find them. It was back in the Spring of '07 I believe.

I was able to find this thread which I have bumped up. But I can't seem to find the oneI was thinking of originally.

That is a great link! Thanks for the info and the search.

I have thought about LCA because I assume the athletes at LCA would be easily observed by LU staff/recruiters. I would love for my son to play at Alabama where he wants to play football, but Daddy sure would like to see his boy play under Coach Williams at UNC Chapel Hill! Go Heels!!

How are church positions in the area? It would seem the area would be pretty saturated with preachers.

The problem with LCA is that, while a power in football, basketball leaves much to be desired.

Your son will get noticed by staff anywhere in Lynchburg area. We routinely sign kids from Heritage, Brookville and other local schools in nearly every sport.

Not having been in seminary myself, I guess I wouldn't know. But it's something I've often thought about. There are tons of churches in the area, but I've always figured it'd be pretty difficult to get a position with one due to the fact that that everybody roaming around in Religion Hall is trying to get one.

It is a challenge. I know that a number of seminarians work somewhere in town at a regular job during the week and then drive distances to small country churches to preach on weekends.

My RA last year would go to classes all week, then Sunday at the crack of dawn he would drive all the way to a church in Williamsburg where he was a youth pastor, be there all day, then drive back so he could be back to do room checks at curfew

if your sone is a legit D1 prospect, he'll get noticed regardless of what school he goes to, even if it's the athletically lowly school of timberlake christian.

By the way, we bleed Carolina Blue.

But, we live right down the road from Alabama, "Roll Tide!"

Well if he is a big man, LU wont want him for basketball :D

And I would have loved to help you out, but then came that Alabama stuff, I bleed blue too, AND ORANGE :D
