And I don't think its mandatory to sacrifice quality to maintain fiscal sanity either.
And how many MILLIONS was the athletic department deficit. Outside of WBB and the so-called "olympic sports," not a lot of quality there and a boat load of money spent.

Wait until the end of the FB season as we hoist our first BSOUTH FB championship trophy!

You can tell Coach Rocco you're his new best friend!

And can anyone please post some updated pix of the new fieldhouse and/or turf work? Updates like we had on LaHaye would be great. All we need is a few of you to quit your jobs and sit in the stands all day shooting photos. Thanks

So you're one of those guys.

The fact is that there are only a handful of programs at the I-AA level and only a few more I-A programs whose athletic departments actually turn a profit on paper. (Montana is the only I-AA that immediately springs to mind.) The purpose of colleges having athletic programs is not to make money for the school; it's to promote and provide greater profile visibility for the school as a whole. At Liberty, it has the added purpose of giving us a broader platform to share the Gospel. In strictly budgetary terms, our athletic program -- just like most NCAA programs -- will continue to "lose" money on paper because the return on our investment does not come directly to athletics but, instead, shows up in increased student enrollment, corporate sponsorships and donor involvement.

Of course, when you win, that pub multiplies exponentially.

Sorry, Medic. I've been a little slack in that department. I have to pry myself away from this message board and the World Cup coverage to get over there every couple of days. At last peek (Monday), they're mudding drywall on the inside and fitting an exterior molding all the way around the top of the outside.

I was always had the understanding that there were exactly 0 1-AA football programs that didn't lose money. I hadn't heard of Montana. And the main reason 1A programs make money is from TV contracts. Obvioulsy, AA would not have those.

No, BROKEBACK is one of "those" guys.

I was just trying to make a point about money spent and quality for LAST year. I think with the new AD, the money will be spent wisely. And as for FOOTBALL, I agree, LU SHOULD win the BSC this year--I am excited as the next FlameFan (dot com).

Montana has a 60,000 seat stadium and is one of only 2 D-I programs in the entire state. They sell out every week. Add in statewide TV contracts and a decade of success on the field. It spells $.

Montana's stadium is only 24,000 or so. It's definitely not 60,000. I've filed stories from there, albeit it was a basketball story (don't get me started on that one ...).

Update: The old turf will begin to be pulled tomorrow. There was a delay because the same company that's doing the turf was building a Cal Ripken baseball facility in Myrtle Beach.

That depends on if you believe the Grizz fans on AGS or not.

I stand corrected, Chris.

When are they gonna start installing the FieldTurf? Drove by last week, and the astroturf hasn't even been touched yet.

I would put the over/under as JULY 5! Why? B/C that way the big celebration can tear up the old turf and not mess with the new stuff.
