dook football sets the standard for suckitude.
Judge agrees: Duke football as bad as it gets

A Franklin, Ky., Circuit Court judge sided with a devilishly clever argument and ruled in favor of Duke University yesterday in a breach of contract lawsuit brought forth by the University of Louisville.

Judge Phillip J. Shepherd agreed with Duke’s lawyers — the football team is so bad that any replacement would do.

U of L sued Duke for $450,000 — or a series with another Atlantic Coast Conference opponent — after the Blue Devils backed out of a four-game football contract with three dates remaining.

You would think a school that rich could buy some decent talent. Or do they do that these days?

Well when you're a BCS team and you get shut-out at home by I-AA (it wasn't FCS then) Richmond, it would be impossible for anyone to say you don't suck. Their .150 winning percentage over the past 6 years or something like that is the worst in all of FBS football, even worse than Buffalo. When they play VT at home, Hokie fans easily outnumber Duke fans. Duke is a bball school, and as long as Coach K continues to run the show there then they will always have an overrated men's bball team and a football team that just flops around on the field hoping to draw "charges."

decent talent rarely comes with a high GPA.

Somehow Harvard, Yale and Stanford find a way to compete very nicely in general. And even Vandy sneaks up every now and then.

Perhaps the Ole Ballcoach needs to make a return engagement. If he could turn that mess around a second time it would cement him as one of the greatest coaches of all time.

Actually Duke had a 67 percent graduation rate according to an article on espn.com in march. That rate happened to be one of the highest among teams that made the tournament this season. I love how people bust on Duke simply because they don't like them (A-Train) but yet don't know nearly enough to even come close to make an educated argument. Try again when you know what the crap you're talking about.

I dare say, oh snap. Anyways the reason most people don't like Duke is because of the "whiney" way they play i.e. drawing fouls when they don't happen simply because a ref might have coach K on their tail.

Its not that I don't like Duke, its just that I feel they have an overrated bball team that gets way more credit than deserved because they are Duke. They got upset by VCU in the tourney a year ago, and then nearly got defeated by #15 seed Belmont this year and didn't get past the 2nd round.

Thanks for the history lesson as if somehow my tv doesn't work. But to take two seasons and to use them as a blanket statement for the whole program is wrong. To say Duke is overrated in general just isn't true. They have a hall of fame coach that consistently recruits top-natch talent and McDonald's All-Americans year after year. Coach K has won over 800 games, taken Duke to 10 final fours and his nine 30-win seasons are the most of any coach in college basketball history. Yeah, that REALLY sounds like a coach that runs an overrated program.

Let's see Duke won the NCAA Tournament in 2001...has been to 13 STRAIGHT NCAA TOURNAMENTS and won 6 of the last 8 ACC tournaments. Correct me if I'm wrong A-Train but aren't you a Va Tech fan? If we're talking about basketball WHAT HAVE THEY DONE LATELY?

Not much because while the other coaches across America are out recruiting, Coach K is coaching Team USA.

I dislike Duke as much as the next guy, but you can't argue against them being one of the best programs in America. Come on. The last two seasons have been disappointments by their standards, but for the majority of college basketball, is still a success.

Excuse the guy for serving his country by being willing to coach the national team. I'm sure there's a reason they asked one of the winningest coaches of all time to help lead our country back to a gold medal.
And it's not like that takes up his responsibility 12 months out of the year. I'm sure the guy has time to recruit. Plus these days assistants do a good part of the recruiting.

here is the 2005 graduation rates
http://www.bus.ucf.edu/sport/public/dow ... 0FINAL.pdf

Dook was 58%, that was third in the ACC behind UNC and Miami. Stanford finished almost 30% higher

Also, Dook beat WVU by 1%

Utah St. and Bucknell had 100% graduation rates for basketball players....like Dook, Utah St. had all white players....well Dook does have Henderson, Smith, and Thomas

I'm not saying they haven't been good, or aren't one of the best programs in America historically speaking, I'm just saying lately they've been a little overrated and given the benefit of the doubt b/c they are Duke.

I can't get over how immature you are, spelling Duke wrong over and over. And congratulations on bringing up out of date material! Drewdawg gave you the most recent statistics and yet you quote these why? Maybe so you can have another chance to spell Duke wrong? Your hatred for Duke has made you irrational and makes you seem childish. I hate Carolina as much as the next Duke fan, but I refuse to be illogical with my emotions. Grow up.

Another note on the grad rates. And someone can correct me on this because I am not sure, but I believe that these rates are affected by transfers as well as NBA defects. We all know about Duke's recent transfer history as well having a few guys leave for the NBA. On a team of 13, if a few players leave every year it could really have an affect on your grad rate. As far as Duke football goes, with Duke's higher academic standards, it is a lot easier to field a competitive team of 13 than it is to field a competitive team of 80. It can be done but at Duke they have just not had a very good coach since Spurrier left after 89'. Recruiting has been awful and it simply snowballed. Hopefully Coach Cut can turn the ship around.
