Draft is Thursday night. Bulls have first pick and will probably take Rose. Who will/should Miami take at 2? Beasley? Mayo?

Bulls will take Beasley or regret it for the rest of his career.

Why when they can get an overrated Point that shoots first/passes second???

Look at Williams - Rose HAS to be as good, right? They can work on that jump shot...it goes in like 30% of the time...it's just a little fundamental adjustment...right? Come on Love and Beasley shoot a higher percentage from 3 point land.

This draft is full of Ready Made Bust picks. I like Beasley - He'll get is 16/9 every game - Have my doubts about Rose (shooting touch, ball hog...), Mayo (was he really that good at USC or is this the Hype we been seeing for 10 years now), Westbrook (Come on - was this guy started 1 year at UCLA - wasn't Collison rated higher a week ago?), Gordan (The guy average more turnovers than assists), Gallinari (Guys looks like a soft Laettner to me and sounds a lot like a Detroit pick a few years back - that worked out great!), Alexander (Are you kidding me here? - The guy had 2 good months in college - average under 10 points the first half of last season and is a tweener in my book), Love (OK I might like him, but a white 6'10 center? - Pollard is the only guy that comes to mind and that's not good), Lopez (Pick one - they both are big, but its not a package deal - I smell a big time BUST here). That's just the beginning, and what is stupid is I like some of the guys projected to go later better than all these guys as value picks - Bayless, Randolph, Rush, Hickson, etc...

There's some solid players in this draft but I don't think there are any "regrettable" picks. That is to say, there are some teams that may regret who they did pick but none who'll regret who they didn't pick.

For better or worse, Bulls are taking Rose. I thought it was locked up for Miami to take Beasley, but apparently they are considering Mayo. As a Heat fan, I hope they take Beasley.

The Heat would be crazy to take Mayo. He plays the same position as Wade. If anything, they need someone to take the ball out of Wade's hands. Mayo isn't that guy.

Wade, Marion and Beasley could be good enough to get the Heat back in to the playoffs.

With those 3 and in the EAST, it sure better be good enough to make it to the playoffis if all are healthy.

I agree with you for the most part. Except on Alexander. He's got all of the tools and was just starting to put them all together at the end of his college career. I really think he is going to be something special in the NBA. He's certainly going to get, at least the hype because he's an athletic white guy.

I think they would be better to trade the pick to the Clippers for brand and their pick, then get Bayless. This team would win the east :
Wade
Bayless
Brand
Marion
And then pick up Jamison to play either PF or SF

Mike and Mike did a rather interesting analysis of the #1 picks over the past 20 years...simply asking was the career they player has had worth the selection. Basically, it was 50-50 in terms of success.

I think that can pretty much be said for any selection, rather it be #1 or #58...

three years back, in Alexander's frosh year at West Virginia, they played against Texas in one of those new early-season tournaments. H played two minutes, took one shot, and grabbed one rebound. Yet, with Mike Gansey, Kevin Pittsnogle and Co. on the floor, ALEXANDER was by far the the most asked-about player of the WVU coaches after the game...

I played in more pick-up games alongside (and sadly, also against) Joe than I'd care to admit at camps over two summers in Morgantown. He showed up everyone on athleticism alone. Beilein taught him to shoot, Huggins made him NBA-ready. Enough said.

That's the most idiotic thing I've seen this side of anything Scar writes.

No, you CAN'T say that for any selection. Second-round picks are not guaranteed contracts, and many times, fail to make the team's roster the following season. With rare exception, second-round picks fail to materialize. Everyone knows this. So, when you get a pick who does (Rashard Lewis, Gilbert Arenas, Michael Redd, Manu Ginobli), you come out on top because you have invested very little and gotten an incredible return from it.

That cannot be said with #1 overalls. You have a HIGH investment in those, for two reasons -- number one, you have your choice of everyone, and number two, there is going to be someone who turns into a stud (and you look like an idiot for passing over, say, Vince Carter for Michael Olowakandi).

Mike & Mike basically said its a 50-50 proposition that you're either going to be completely satisfied, or conversely, completely dissatisfied with your pick. It is abject foolishness to say that can be said about any pick. If you blow your pick at #58 (who does NOT materialize into a serviceable player at a 50 percent rate), no one cares. The guy can be a complete stinker and you can say "ehhh, he was worth it, we didn't spend too much on him". There is NOT ONE instance, I guarantee you, where an NBA GM said "I really blew it at #58 by selection Giorgos Printezis. I mean, Milovan Raković was on the board!"

There is a 100% chance that the guy picked #58 will turn into at least what his value is at #58, which is to say, absolutely nothing.

Well it can be said that you could get a potential star anywhere in the draft. I mean youre going to get your stars at the top (course you get your busts there too) but you can get some real steals in that second round that can quietly become solid contributors.

Yes and I'm sure there aren't NBA GMs saying they are glad they took Alaa Abdelnaby over Toni Kukoc (2nd round pick); glad they took Marlon Maxey over PJ Brown (both 2nd round picks); Luscious Harris over Nick Van Exel and Bryon Russel (last two are 2nd round picks); Serge Zwikker over Stephen Jackson (each a 2nd rounder); Ansu Sesay over Rashard Lewis, Rafer Alton, and Cuttino Mobley (all 2nd rounders); Nearly the entire 1999 draft class over Ginobili (who was the next to last pick that year); Dan Langhi over Michael Redd (both second rounders); Trenton Hassell over GIlbert Arenas, Mehmet Okur, and Earl Watson (all second rounders); Steve Logan over Carlos Boozer, Luis Scola, and Juan Carlos Navarro (all second rounders); Ricky Sanchez over Monta Ellis; James White over Craig Smtih, Daniel Gibson, Paul Millsap, and Leon Powe.

I believe right there provides several instances in which current and former NBA GMs have said "Man I wish I would have taken Manu Ginobili over Rico Hill" and etc. Which probably explains why a lot of NBA GMs are former GMs. Wanna know why the Spurs have been so successful - other than getting lucky with Robinson and Duncan - they are absolutely amazing at drafting low first rounders and second rounders who turn into solid to very good nba players. They treat those picks like legitimate picks, not just some garbage pick like other teams do who consistently suck (Clippers, for example), and that's why teams like the Spurs are successful and why others are consistently mired in losing.

Seriously, if you were any dumber you'd be broadcasting Liberty basketball games. To liken "maybe I shouldn't have gone with Marlon Maxey" to "maybe I shouldn't have gone with Kwame Brown" is piffle, pure and simple.

There's an Ansu Sesay fan on here?

I actually just watched his Ole Miss squad get upset by Bryce Drew and Valpo on ESPN Classic yesterday.
