A few notes...

1- I refuse to call it "Bugg's Island". That's just retarded. It's freakin' "Kerr Lake".

2 - They do have rather large catfish towards the side of the lake where the dam is located.

3 - I'm a member of the USCG Auxiliary that patrols Smith Mountain Lake. There are plenty of retarded boaters on that lake. However, that lake has better ATON than all the other lakes around here. So, if people could learn to use it, there would be less incidents to report.

4 - The Poker Run is something to see. Another four ace hand won it this year. The woman that won it last year with four aces used the money to buy herself one of those speed boats. The name...."Four Aces".

That's what the locals call it.

Interesting. Kite boarding is not allowed at KERR LAKE (bug's island). I assume it's not a SML either. Why is that? (besides the fact that there probably isn't enough wind to be successful at it.)

I keep telling everyone here that it's not Bugg's Island. The locals are misinformed & I'm doing my part to correct it.

I'm not sure exactly why kite boarding isn't allowed. I'd imagine because the "S curves" are dangerous enough when your on a boat, much less kiteboarding.

Ha, retarded....I thought you were from NC....???

Here is the MAIN website...take a look at the name:
"The development of cities and homes along the river and the increased demand for flood control and electricity led to the construction of the John H. Kerr Reservoir, named after the North Carolina congressman instrumental in the reservoir's development. Construction of this reservoir that straddles Virginia and North Carolina began in 1946 and was completed in 1953."

"The Kerr Reservoir Commission was then created to govern the North Carolina parks bordering the lake. The N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation eventually took control of the seven recreation areas of the reservoir in 1981. In addition to water resource management, the reservoir provides fish and wildlife conservation, forest management and recreation."

so what are you wakeboarding behind in your facebook album HMO. It doesn't look like you're being towed by something with a tower on it. I'm in the same situation and I think it really hampers the wakeboarding experience.

Here's the WRAL website. Even the news calls it Kerr Lake.

no, I always try to convince the owners of the boats that pull me that they need a tower but it's been unsuccessful. I imagine you can get a lot more air.

if they have those weights in the back it will help throw a huge wake and you can get even more air. my uncle has a nautique with all of the above. its pretty sweet

i can't wakeboard. thats one of the things i'm trying to learn this summer. i know from driving the boat that there is a huge difference though. we had 2 guys behind the nautique that both were close to 300 lbs on wakeboards... it was pulling them, but that is the only thing i ever saw that really put strain on that boat. with only 1 guy you can roll

We used to go there once a year when I was younger. I loved that place...and then the beaches dissapeared and it was just nasty.

You definately do not want to wear your good trunks there, that's for sure. The mud stains them up real good. As for the beaches, they're only there if it's the right time of year. I was there Memorial Day and there were no beaches. The level was the highest I had ever seen it. However, last year on Labor day, you could practically walk to the other side. The cove where we normally are varied from about 3-6 feet (it's normally 10-15). I got a little bit nervous driving a boat through there.
