Several high-profile country, rock and Christian rock music artists will soon test the waters of a developing entertainment market at Smith Mountain Lake.

Sweetwater Entertainment Group, Inc. — operated by Moneta native Holly Sweet and husband/partner Darren Snyder — have announced seven concerts in late August.

Sara Evans, Blake Shelton, Lonestar, Diamond Rio, Grand Funk Railroad, TobyMac and Styx are slated to headline a string of outdoor concerts with festival-style seating across the Mariners Landing entrance on Smith Mountain Lake Parkway.

Perhaps this may explain Toby's relectance for a homecoming reunion show. Most contracts protect promoters from other nearby shows by artists.

that actually makes a whole lot more sense then anything anybody was suggesting on the other thread...normally there is a 90 day clause that says a band can not play within a certain amount miles from the venue....well...not normally, but its very common...

I was wondering if it'll be in a location where people can dock nearby

I doubt there is any dock on SML that could handle that many boats.

I don't know if you've ever been to SML. But this that is 100% disaster. I think that lake has the highest percentage of retard boaters in the country. I can just imagine 50 boats anchored in the water and one of those 38' Scarab boats ripping through them at 80 miles an hour

I haven't been on that lake (in the busy time at least) since 6th grade. I just know that there have been places where the boats anchored in a cove or something for a concert.

On the NC/VA border. Clarkesville, VA right next to South Boston. I think maps show it has John H Kerr Reservior.

No, what you want is one where somebody pays for the gas. 8)

Most of my friends drop about $150 in gas every day they take their boats out on the lake. That has me looking at kayaks.

and gas that pumps on the lake is usually 75% more expensive because they like to gouge you. not to mention boat fiberglass is made of petrolium. It's not a good time for boats right now.

They do have incredably large catfish. The record is up in a tackle shop right on the main highway. It's not as big as your exagerated rumor though.
