We all have family come into town for various reasons. Or some of us may actually visit the school for DLP or alumni reasons. So what I am looking for is where you suggest to your family to stay when visiting the mountain.

Quality of lodging, value and proximity all come into play. I am open to hotels, motels and bed & Breakfasts. I am trying to list typical pricing to factor into judgement based on numbers from TripAdvisor.

The new Hilton Garden Inn, haven't stayed there but they're all nice.

The Extended Stay right across from Lahaye sucks.

My parents always stay at the Sleep Inn. I think they have a LU discount there. They have never paid $100 for a room there before. The only time they stay somewhere different is if they come on a busy weekend like CFAW or Homecoming, then they will stay in Altavista so they don't have to deal with all the people and it is much cheaper. I don't know where in Altavista they stay, but I have been impressed with the Sleep Inn. It is pretty nice for the price you pay

Cast some ballots, my friends.

I believe Altavista has some rather nice B&Bs.

Cider's pop-up camper has AC and sleeps 6 in a wooded backyard bordered by a creek near Forest.

And do you rent that pop-up? What we need is a FF co-op for campers, boats, ... pools...

I hated the weak showers at Sleep Inn. And I hate weak showers so much that I have taken my own illegal full flow showerhead with me on trips and changed out the showerhead in the hotel if I plan on a longer stay! Hilton Garden will be a nice addition.

Its not as uncommon for us frequent travellers as you might think. Same goes for lousy WIFI signals.

Whenever I am in town I stay at the Sumner Suites. Not the old chain that was sold off years ago but one of the two houses where I now have family in town. But I admit the pop-up camper sounds most excellent.

Where have you been? Nearly all chain hotels have free wifi offered in the rooms.

I tether off my Blackberry. Most of my colleagues use aircards.

And you would be surprised how few major upscale hotels offer free WIFI. Its just like the mini-fridge to them ... a way to squeeze a few more dollars out of customers.

I travel about 20-25 weeks out of the year and 90% of the hotels I stay at have free wifi. We generally stay at Marriotts or Hamptons.

In the last month I have stayed at Marriotts, Crowne Plazas, Hyatts and an independent resort and it has been 50-50 on free WIFI. Everyone has the service but the higher end places charge for it.

The Hamptons and Courtyards tend to be much better in regard to offering free WIFI. But even then the signals can be poor depending on where your room is located in the complex. That's why I generally tether.

Seinfeld built an entire episode on "low flow" showheads. I'm not the only one who likes a good strong shower.
