Pittsburgh sources are reporting that Pittsburgh QB Ben Rothlesberger was involved in a motorcycle accident earlier today. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered some sort of head injury. He is reportedly in serious but stable condition at a Pittsburgh hospital.

As much as I HATE!!!!!! the Steelers, I really didn't want to see this happen... but here are some interesting quotes that I found from Ben right after Our beloved Solider had his motorcycle crash...

Roethlisberger has said in the past that he prefers not to wear a helmet. He has pointed out Pennsylvania's 35-year-old state law requiring helmets to be worn was amended to make helmets optional.
In May 2005, Cowher warned him about safe riding after Cleveland tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. was injured in a motorcycle accident. Winslow tore knee ligaments and was lost for the season.
"He talked about being a risk-taker and I'm not really a risk-taker. I'm pretty conservative and laid back, but the big thing is to just be careful," Roethlisberger said at the time. "I'll just continue to be careful. I told him we don't ever ride alone, we always ride in a group of people, and I think it makes it even more safe."
Roethlisberger continued to ride after Winslow's accident and that angered Terry Bradshaw, who quarterbacked the Steelers to four Super Bowl victories during the 1970s.
Visiting the Steelers' training camp last summer, Bradshaw remarked: "Ride it when you retire."

Hopefully he will be ok... For the time being I am looking forward to seeing Charlie Batch try to toss it around!!!!

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is undergoing surgery at Mercy Hospital after he was injured in a motorcycle accident on Monday.

The extent of his injuries are unknown.

"Ben is in serious but stable condition and right now is in the operating room undergoing surgery for injuries he received in this accident," said Dr. Larry Jones, chief of trauma at Mercy. "Before he went into the surgery, he was talking to me and was coherent. He knew where he was and what had happened."

Roethlisberger was injured when his motorcycle crashed into a car at an intersection in downtown Pittsburgh. The accident occurred at the Second Avenue side of the 10th Street Bridge near the Armstrong Tunnel.

An eyewitness told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Roethlisberger flew into the windshield of the car and hit the ground after his motorcycle crashed into the car. He was bleeding from a gash on his forehead before being taken to the hospital.

Roethlisberger has been known to refuse to wear a helmet when riding his motorcycle.

According to the eyewitness account in the newspaper, Roethlisberger was headed outbound on Second Avenue and a car was coming inbound when it made a left turn toward the bridge in front of the motorcycle.

The scary part about riding a motorcycle is that it doesn't really matter how safe a rider you are. The fact is that your bike is 1/4th to 1/2 the size of even the smallest cars and, sooner or later, someone else will make the mistake of not seeing you. I've witnessed an accident before that sounds similar to Roth's circumstances where a car pulled out in front of the motorcycle and there was nothing the guy on the bike could do but try not to land on his head.
