I think for college graduates just getting started, benefits and a chance to move up/resume builder are the two most important things. The whole no health insurance thing is kinda scary after graduating.

Why do you think so many LU grads go into the admissions or especially the DLP Depts at LU? It is a paying job with benefits and they enjoy Lynchburg and the Liberty life.

Oh, believe me, I know. Plus it's free grad school if they work for Liberty. I don't know how much Liberty pays, but unless someone has an outrageous car payment or their rent is insane, all they need to cover their costs (assuming they're single and have no kids) is about $12-14,000. A $20,000 job, plus benefits, plus free grad school gives them $6-8000 of just pure fun money.

12000 is nothing. I had a job in high school that i would have made that much at if i had worked full time during school

That's what I'm saying. If you're single, you don't HAVE to have a ton of money coming out of school, that's why college grads take the $20,000 jobs.

you forgot to factor in student loans though. almost all college grads have student loans, and even if the payment required isn't huge it would be to their benefit to pay them of ASAP unless the interest rate is extremely small

I didn't forget to factor it in. That was factoring in all of my student loan payments (actually more than the required) and everything.

$300 rent
$220 car payment
$435-ish car insurance every six months
$100 to live on (gas and food)

Ideally, my parents refinance the house I'm in now, put my name on the title with my dad, and I start making the payments for everything myself. That'd be $500 a month. Even then, with the $500 in rent/utilities, that's roughly $14,310 to cover things. Add in cell phone (mine's company so I don't worry about it) and you're at about $15,500 or so. A $20,000-$22,000 job with benefits for someone just out of college allows them to live comfortably, put a little back in savings (or pay more on their loans if they want), and build their resume a little or search for a job while not being broke.

The problem is a lot of college graduates go out and get a car with an insane payment or buy a bunch of crap they don't need and spend that money that they should be saving for a rainy day.

SJ, you're going to need more than $100/month for gas and food with the way prices have gone up. Trust me on this.

Oh, crap, I didn't make that clear. I meant $100 a week. My bad. When I did the math and totaled everything up, I did it at $100 a week. I just didn't specify that on the break down.

$100 may be on the low side because of gas prices, but even then it shouldn't be too much more than that unless you have to drive a ton. If you're just going around town, a tank of gas should last you a week.

Super, you make a good point--free grad school while working at LU is a huge perk. I would recommend that to most anyone who just graduated from college, esp. considering how much grad school would cost without the LU job benefit.

I don't know about you guys but with gas the way it is, it's nice they are building a new theater but that just means it will cost $15 a ticket to go see a movie. I don't think I will be going to it muvh.

Yeah, look at the starting pay for Genworth, even with a college degree, it's less then what I quoted you at...most will accept that pay, most do...not for long, generally 1-2 years but still they will.

she might require some ituning, she'd probably be good at cleaning the windows, if someone bought her she'd most likely be married to a player, and i'd definitely want to buy her new.

Parents own the house. They've always charged $300 wherever I lived and with whoever my roommates were and that included everything. When there were three people living here, we all paid $300. In my old apartment, we all paid $300.
