wow. I can't believe we didn't get a top 25 ranking. Just gives us something to prove next year. We do have some "unfinished business"!

It's just AGS, I wouldn't get too upset over it.

What exactly earned us a top 25 ranking? Losing to W and M? Losing to Elon? Losing to Toledo?

We didn't prove a thing, but have LOADS of potential. I'm glad we got some votes, and I'm glad that a couple of our opponents are ranked that high, so we can prove where we belong.

I know this isn’t an official poll, but when was the last time we played 2+ teams ranked in the top 25 in the same year?

I think the AGS poll is at least somewhat official. Journalists actually use it. It doesn't determine the Sagarin and that stuff, but people take it seriously.

I have no clue about your question though.

I wouldn't call it official in the least, but that's subjective.

I believe the AGS people indicate it is indeed part of the formula the selection committee uses to choose teams for the playoffs. But I agree that it tends be a bit of a popularity contest with higher profile conferences getting major benefit of the doubt.

In all honesty, the Big South has never proven its mettle to be considered anything but a mediocre I-AA football conference...yet we hear about how Coastal wants to join the Southern or how we at Liberty should be in the CAA. If the Big South was more than just a jumping off point for teams moving into D1 (Elon, Greensboro), or schools with no other choice, then I could see it being held in high regard other than in baseball and one team in track and WBB. The one time we got a team in the playoffs, it got blitzed. That being said, why should we at LU or any other Big South team be getting anything other than "others receiving votes" at this juncture.

If we had finished the job at Bill and Mary and Toledo, then we should. You can transcend your conference by winning big out of conference, and we didn't. In the end, it's about your team.

I saw in Lindy's yesterday that we were ranked 19th I believe in the pre-season poll.

Yes...two big "ifs." For the Big South as a whole to move up in perception (and in reality), it is going to be up to the teams to win those out-of-conference games. Coastal did, a couple years ago, against JMU (which turned out to be way down after their championship year), and we have yet to. Basically, it is the same argument as we have in basketball season. It cannot be one team that improves its schedule and starts winning some of those games, it is up to the entire league to.

I don't really care about pre-season, its the end of season ones I care about.

What I'm saying is, we can get ranked and get recognition from the Big South. We aren't just shut out of everything based on the BSC, so we can't blame that.

Technically, Fumble’s faux pas was a wrong word, not a misspelling. JDUB, are you sure you want to be an accountant instead of an English teacher? You may have missed your calling majoring in business.

Yeah...a wrong word...not an incorrect spelling. Sheesh!

And you think CJ would be tired of English after reading a billion honors thesis the past few weeks.
