If this were any other school, I'd probably just agree to disagree. But there is no way anybody in this situation would set foot in Manhattan, KS for any other reasons than A. They are comfortable with the coach. and B. they felt it was the only option to get the attention to get drafted.

I never said Vince getting drafted means that Fitz is automatic to LU. But I wouldn't be surprised if he saw Vince not get drafted and closed the door to LU. Small school players do get drafted, but when was the last LU player to get drafted? 92 or something? That's not a very good selling point for us.

There's no way he was going to be eligible to play this fall anyways, so why not stay FBS and sit out the year? He would've sat if he transferred to FCS anyways. Him transferring there has no effect on when he's eligible for the draft either.

This move actually makes perfect sense for Fitzgerald and I doubt that it has anything to do with Liberty in any way. Consider:

• He still had a redshirt year to burn.
  
  He didn't finish out the year at UVa, making him ineligible to play in Fall '08. (So my wife tells me and she knows these things).
  
  It is much easier to get drafted from an FBS school than from an FCS school.

The upshot is that sitting out '08 doesn't hurt his college career at all and playing at K-State would be better for his long-term prospects than playing for us. Vince Redd getting drafted or not getting drafted would have had little to no effect on his decision. Personally, I'm just glad he didn't end up somewhere where we might have had to face him.

How could seeing a guy who has traveled almost his exact path before him not affect his decision? At the very least its just another fact to throw into the decision making process. At the most its an exact foreshadow of what his future would have been here (although I wounld't go that far).

I'm not saying I know the kid, I'm just saying it makes perfect sense for him. Redd and Fitzgerald had completely different "paths" at Virginia b/c the redshirt year changes everything. Redd left UVa after his redshirt year and going FCS was his best option. Fitzgerald still has his so going to a bowl program makes a lot more sense for him. He has the ability to go to a big-time bowl program without hurting his college or pro career and he'd be a fool not to take that.

Further, why is that you guys think Liberty is automatically the #1 option of any player who can't hack it at UVa? Obviously, we're in a better position to accomodate those guys than we were but it's a ridiculous assumption.

This shows how little you know. Did you watch the last seven games of last year? Did you watch the spring game? Did you watch any of spring practice? If you did, you wouldn't want a senior who will be a captain for the second year in a row to be benched.

yeah, he's a senior and he is good, but I'd bench him in a heartbeat to have an ACC caliber QB take his place. Obviously he'd still get snaps but I just think you play the better player no matter what. I know this is the football thread, but I'm only using basketball as an example here. If a good big man from the ACC had transfered to Liberty last year, wouldn't you have started him over Ace? YOU ALWAYS PLAY THE BETTER PLAYER! And if Sewell comes here and Brock plays better than Sewell then we should play Brock. But I just think that an ACC QB would help this team make the transition to BCS.

You don't bench a captain for someone who transferred in (which isn't happening by the way), especially if he's a senior. You redshirt the guy if he's an underclassmen, let the captain finish his career, and then go from there.

But if Brock doesn't play well, would you agree with me that we need to let Mike Brown have a shot? Don't get me wrong, I hope Brock has a great season. We were one of the top offenses in the nation last year and that is largely due to him. Hopefully he'll keep it up!

Did you watch the spring game or any of spring practice? Mike Brown is third on the depth chart. Spencer Landis is the #2 quarterback.

Also, your basketball analogy doesn't work because he'd automatically have to sit a year in basketball.

well say he transfered the year before, like Teejay did. And I didn't watch any of the spring stuff so I have no idea how well he is doing now. I am sure he is doing great. But all I am saying is you wouldn't wanna pass up on the opportunity to land a big transfer like a sewell or a periloux (sp?) just because we have Brock. That would be huge for our program.

I am a big fan of Brock, but you wouldn't turn down a guy like Sewell just because we have Brock.

this team is very cohesive with brock. we do not need sewell though he has great athleticsm. a transfer has to fit our needs and the transfers we have have filled those needs. we do not have a "need" at the QB position.

I agree with you on that one JC. Brock had an awesome year last year, the team is totally behind him, the coaches are totally behind him, heck the fans are behind him. Brock Smith is our #1 and itd take an act of God for that to change.

We would get more wins next year with Brock at QB than with Sewell, guarnteed.

Brock led the second highest scoring offensive unit in the NATION last year, and that included the dud at Elon! He was racking up yards and points like crazy. He works well with the players on his team, and he is a leader and returning captain. Brock is going to show everyone how dumb they are for doubting him this year.

in regards to fitz going to kstate, he already took a redshirt year. He still has a medical red shirt, this might work for him anyways since he has two banged up shoulders, which might even require surgery.

The NCAA is very stingy about giving out a 6th year. It has to be a very clear cut medical situation where there is no way the athlete could have played, and even then they often turn it down.
